This is the correct answer. Sure, if you want to change it for piece of mind go for it. But you absolutely do not need to change your oil before the manufacturer recommend interval, because ya know.... their the manufacturer.... not anyone else in this thread.

It engine is crafted with loving care, by someone thinking about when lunch is and how much longer before I can blow my bilge tanks that brand muffin and coffee have gone rogue.

C'mon. We all know water won't touch oil sludge. Use a couple quarts of Acetone from the DIY paint department. Its pretty cheap.

LOL that reminded me of Homer Simpson and his oil truck going behind fast food places and siphoning their used cooking oil...

I did my first oil change at 5K because of break in, but it’ll be every 10K from now on. It really depends on how and where you drive. The manual does recommend 5K intervals for severe service (lots of stop and go traffic, very hot climates, etc..)

Cooking oil could be used in a pinch.

Any oil is better than none.

Also, +1 to TW for teaching me two new words. At first I thought "fines" was a fat-finger of "filings" but google set me straight, then I saw "swarf" and had to look that one up too. Good grief, do y'all use a thesaurus to write these posts?!

I am a chemist. Never started out as an engineer in college (unless you consider I was in the aeronautical engineering program in high school).

I did tutor the chemical engineers in college.

oil threads are fun. stick with what the owners book says until there is an update like with the lifetime transmission fluid we had in our 2nd gens.

Yeah, i split the difference @7500 mile intervals, lots of stop and go traffic, i only work 3 miles from our house so barely long enough to get the oil temps hot enough
