Fitting 35’s with minimal trimming NOW ADDING LONG TRAVEL AND 934 CV’s

With the 2.25 kit and 934 axles, how freely should the tire spin with both sides at full droop? I'm just wondering what's normal and what's considered "hey, something is binding."

The weight of the tire will mask things a fair bit from what I’ve seen. Unless it’s really bad. I would recommend pulling off the tire and spinning the hub by hand to try and feel for any binding. My guess with the 934’s is that the spindle/ uniballs will be the determining factor. That’s my limiting factor at least. But haven’t seen the jd kit or those axles in person yet.

It started here. Friends that curse at potential customers asking questions might not have your best interest in mind. I'm not interested enough to figure out what someone's personality is based on inscrutable social clues from an online forum- if I see them being a dick, I consider them a dick. If I thought you shared their way of operating I would have spent my money elsewhere. The group buy is what eventually motivated me to purchase your products even though I bought nothing from it. I’d consider starting that a friend move.

No one knows your industry like you and your competition. This industry particularly is slap full of assholes that have confused intellectual snobbism with customer service. There are times I want to scream at people for being dumb, but that’s not going to be a good long term business plan for me.

This is totally my experience and opinion so take that for what it's worth. It will ultimately depend on what you want from your business of course. With it at droop I can't spin it by hand from the hub. With the tire on, I have to muscle it a decent bit and can rotate it but it rotates smoothly, no jerking or anything. At ride height, if I lift from the LCA, I can spin the tire freely. I expect some resistance at droop, just not sure what's normal.

 

Simply by putting the truck back on its own weight, backing out of the garage and checking again, it spins freely now. Everything just needed to settle in I guess.

anyways the spring under kit goes on today! Just need to cycle and weld on shock mounts. It was a rough ride getting the old hangers off. Particularly the ones under the cab. Had to remove exhaust and fuel tank, thankfully the fuel tank was only half full and I was able to lower it by myself. And I was able to plate more of the frame in.

@81Trekker how do you set pinion angle up?

 

pfft, DRIVEWAY?!?! get that thing in the dirt already!

 

this one works wonders for how Iv used it, maybe different for 37s but this was not too too expensive and it has a thermostat so my scatter brains doesn’t forget to check trans temp and have to use a switch for the fan. Also didn’t want to over cool it when I’m in colder conditions driving it normally.

 

I'll tell you how I did mine and what DMZ told me to do.
Measure pinion angle at ride height before you start
Set your pinion angle to the same angle at ride height with the new leafs, hangars and shackles on.

 

uh, thought it was set at midpoint in the travel and parallel to the trans?

Well in case anyone is wondering, no flares, 2.25 and 17x9 -38 looks absolutely ridiculous. My glass fenders should be shipping soon.

This is also 16”x700 lb coils and will be swapping to 18”x600 lb coils. Minor mixup from King but Harry was quick to resolve. Should bring the front down a bit.

 

Take it up with Tim at DMZ....I'm sure you could school him all day long on it.

 

not doubting anything, I asked a question. I'm sure there are tricks and such involved with 2-pieces. I'm down to learn more. Have had a shudder around 10mph since installing the midtravel and it's still there with sua so probably prop shaft gremlins. I chalked it up to me installing wrong initially.

 

I have the same shudder. It got a lot better when I changed all my u joints and carrier bearing. I still think my pinion angle is way off though.

 

I just did what he told me to do and it worked for me. Never took the time to educate myself any further since I wasnt chasing the gremlims you guys have.

 

Unless after the carrier bearing you're running a CV/double cardon then the pinion needs to be at the same angle as the DS. People only do that when you're crazy and get a 1350 DS made though

That diagram is 100% correct though which most people dick with their pinion angle just make it worse.

Sweet now I know about what my new wheels and the +4 kit will look like! You just need a rear to match the front that way it doesn't look so crazy. You'll be glad to have that poke if you do trail 15 at windrock or anything similar. The tires keep the body off the walls.
