I was just poking fun at you making an honest mistake. I don't think carmaker1 was giving you too much grief, but it could have been omitted from his automotive manifesto.

Right, was kinda my point and same with us just making opinions on design cues, I find it hard to believe there isn't some influence from other brands.

The race to the summit of Mt. Testosterone for full-size pickups isn't a coincidence. There is some definite group think going on there. At a cursory glance, the GMC seems to share some common elements IMO.

I am far from perfect and I have plenty of typos myself (as seen in my long post), but I had to wonder if you really thought it to be TGNA-F versus TNGA-F. If we're not all on the same page, one can get a wrong idea was my reasoning. If it was offensive, it was not intended. I respect you as a very insightful individual, like many others here.

As for the other business, very sore spot for me in what implies a lack of originality on Toyota's part. I don't think that's fair, because I do not believe Toyota copied anyone in this case and it's merely coincidence.

I made my points why I believe that, since no one else spoke up on the possibilities how that isn't likely. In 2017, the current Sierra wasn't really accessible to Toyota was it? Not to mention, the side profile is an evolution of the 3rd generation Tacoma (an evolution of 2nd generation), plus the past generations of Tundra dating back till at least 2003ish.

The finger pointing is all too common a theme I see and get exasperated over, because it's hard to be certain if anyone borrowed from anyone else. Plenty of experts do it too, in a rather partisan manner even.

GMC Sierra used to be like this, when Toyota designed the current truck nearly 20 years ago. And then compare generations of Tundra and even the 3rd gen to the current Sierra. Toyota strongly felt the design language used on their successful Tacomas should be applied to the Tundra, so for me I don't see where GM comes in really. GM changed the look of their trucks, that leans in the same direction of Toyota.

I am a tad sensitive, as for a long time last year, I somewhat had to defend the claims that the 2021 Ford F-150 copied the 2019 GMC Sierra. By association, somewhat instrumental to that product, due to the underlying "platform".

This November 2017 internal photo right here, was the proof we didn't copy GM's design, before it went public on March 1, 2018. I imagine the same for Toyota, especially that the Chevy 2500 which the Tundra looks very similar to, was revealed even much later than the Sierra.

Funny enough, I think everyone else has been copying Toyota, especially that window kink the Tacoma introduced back in 2000 on the Double Cab and sharpened up in 2015 for the current generation. I even think the Hilux Double Cab had that cue back in the late 90s, before the Taco got it for '01.

Toyota I believe personally, is evolving their own styling, while borrowing some stuff from the Raptor. GM has encroached on Toyota's design direction very cleverly, as have many others with their own twist.

Seems some nerves have been stomped on..

That's unfortunate, as is the design of this new Tundra (IMO).

I still think it's hideous, original or borrowed.

    :notsure:

Imo this loos good. But it could use one or two improvements. Close up the catfish mouth that is the gigantic grill, make the bottom part of the front bumper color coded, like in the Tacoma. Also get rid of the prison teardrop black accents bellow the front headlights. They're too long, at least reduce them by half. After that I think it would look great.

But then again, I think the 3rd gen Taco looks gorgeous.

Pretty much with you on all of that.

The black plastic bro bulge/badge things on the hood are unnecessary IMO, they scream Ram! to me.

    Right?

I definitely don't. Hopefully the lower trims aren't so over the top.

Keep it real though, looks aside.. even if it made financial sense, would you trade that 5.7 for a TT 3.5 since you said you tow heavy shit?

It reeks of trying too hard IMO.

I get this is the pro though so I'm hopefully the lower trims will be somewhat more sedated. The nose on this one is just bad. 4runner nose looked bad when they introduced it 12 years ago. It doesn't look better now or scaled up 150%

Except the F-150 Lightning gets ~100 eMPG. Toyota is a day light and a dollar short in the FS space.
The "tried too hard" comment is spot on. You'd have thought that someone on the 500-person design team (maybe the lone female) would have raised an objection but 'bro momentum was probably too much to overcome.

I think it looks cools. Everyone is negative about every new design from every manufacturer at first.

However, I think Toyota is getting way to carried away with aggressive looks.

It’s started with the 4Runner and Tacoma, and now the Camry looks like a racecar.
