So last Sunday my wife and I took her Tacoma to pick up some to-go food. We brought our dog along and I drove so my wife could keep the passenger window down for our pup.

Well it was very stormy later that night and into the next morning. We received approximately 4.5" of rain... and my wife forgot the passenger window down. Unfortunately it was rainy everyday so it was not possible to leave the truck open to air out.

I removed the passenger seat (which was not very wet thanks to the Carhart seat covers) and pulled up the carpet to expose the completely soaked insulation. I was able to use a shop vac to get alot of the water out but of course not everything. I set up multiple variations of Damprid, a dehumidifier, and sprinkled backing soda on the carpet and the insulation.

I let it sit over night then vacuumed out the baking soda (huge pain, clogged up my shop vac multiple times). At this point, the carpet was dry, but the insulation was still pretty damp on the under side.

So I set up a fan blowing under the insulation for a night. This completed the drying. Thanks to the baking soda and scented Damprid, there was no mildew smell. However, I sprayed the carpet and insulation with Lysol just as a preventative. Let it sit for another day to insure everything was completely dry, then reassembled and did a good vacuuming and cleaning.

Just wanted to share what worked for me incase anyone else finds themselves in this situation.

That's a preventative measure more than a solution. I mean, a new wife isn't going to undo the water damage and dry everything out.

I feel your pain. Went on a beach trip the other week. I won’t name names but someone in my truck other than me managed to let a 2 gal water bottle leak out it’s entire contents into the rear passenger floor, while sitting back there with the bottle, and totally missing my damn weathertech mat. Spent an entire wasted morning popping interior panels and getting that entire side of carpet dried out.

I have worked 6-7 days a week, 12 hour days since Feb and actually took Monday and Tuesday off... So after the window was left open Sunday night, guess how I spent my time "off?"

Yeah....my wife's boyfriend did something similar in my rig. What was I going to say? It was awkward enough watching them make out in the backseat in the rear view mirror

    :notsure:

that feature might be unsupported with your model year. have you considered upgrading?

Make sure you fully research how to ensure no one finds the old wife. That tends to lead to trouble.

Probably varies from state to state....but seeking a "salvage title" should alrert most potential buyers to the issues ahead.

I've found WifeFax isn't always accurate and much of the past service history and damage don't always show up.

If you use the right "attitude adjustment" it might happen.

If that happened to me, all I’d need to do is park it in my driveway with the windows down for 10 min. It’s been oven temperatures here in Socal for a week!
