There's a few spots on the Pipeline that have been known to swallow full sized trucks when conditions are right. There are also plenty of small, easy water crossings and mud holes. Come on up and check it out!

Plus plenty of rocky and gravel areas as well. It's not just mud, I promise!

EDIT: I normally skip the areas with the bigger mud holes, and some of the really bad ones are in areas that are now closed.

I feel like this is an "ask me how I know" response.

That and a fresh coat of Woolwax in between the frame and brackets - really dig that stuff.

Hey gents, I'd like your input on something I've been wrestling with, all opinions welcome.

As some of you know, I've been on the hunt for a diesel Land Cruiser (which we never had in the US, sadly), preferably an 80 series due to cross compatibility and general parts availability with the gasoline 80s that were sold here, which are nearly identical in design. The intent is to have a dedicated but highly capable adventure vehicle to take into Canada, out west, and potentially other continents, while having the Tacoma as a reliable daily to fall back on, though capable in and of itself.

I've now located a bit of a unicorn - 1995 JDM 80 series, 1hd-ft turbodiesel (one of Toyota's golden era diesels), 73k miles, etc. The condition has been verified and all paperwork is in order. The catch is that the asking price is relatively expensive, due to its exceptional condition and rarity.

So, the question - should I go down a relatively unknown path of owning a capable dinosaur?

Doesn't seem like a question to me, full steam ahead!

I actually just missed the bid on a 1991 JDM Hilux myself today, by an hour and $4000 ish.

I have to agree with @CygnusX191 and @Shellshock here. If you want it, and can afford it, do it. They print money every day. Opportunities don't always come back around.

Of course, bear in mind that this is coming from an admittedly irresponsible person.
