Hello, I changed my oil yesterday (5w-30 castrol edge high mileage) and put a new k&n oil filter in like usual but now it shakes at idle. Didn’t have any problems prior

Not enough information to attempt a guess at diagnosis.

What have you done to identify the problem? besides your post.

Did you disconnect the battery? Try cleaning the throttle body. Look for vacuum leaks

Did you use a floor jack on that center puck to lift your truck to change the oil? If so, you may have missed it and pushed the skid plate up to the engine which could be causing the vibration. Ask me how I know...

    Is this the 4.0 engine?
    Is it an Automatic?
And are you absolutely sure it was the engine oil you drained?

I’ve heard these same complaints when the transmission was drained.
Then 5+ qts. of oil put in making the total 10+ qts in the engine.

The hit-and-run posters I really like are the ones who show up and their first post is titled with some desperate form of "need help" followed by a seemingly difficult or alarming mechanical problem. Then you spend some time trying to assist, dig in your files, maybe include links and pics, hit the Post Reply button and --poof-- they vanish without acknowledgement ever again.

    Some people get busy lol.
Bit of an update if anyone’s still there...when I go to accelerate hard it’ll lag and when it does speed up, a big cloud of white smoke will come out the tail pipe.
My first plan is to check the throttle body then to the spark plugs if it’s still rough.

Common sense should tell you to check your work.

"Didn’t have any problems prior" It's very possible you now have 10qt of oil in the engine and no atf in the transmission. The big smoke cloud would be a symptom of severely overfilled oil. There may be other issues to address now. I don't know, all that oil may have pushed through the pvc valve and through the intake and need cleaning.

If you struggle with the ability to click search:

Don't feel bad, we all make mistakes. I did this once, about 35 years ago, when I was stupider. I'm still stupid, but years of experience has made me less so.

Did you check the oil level of the engine?

Did you check the fluid level of the transmission?

    First of all…Lmao.

Kind of a wild ride, I ended up using a computer, said I had 2 bad ignition coils.

Swapped out the coils with no luck. Took it into a shop, they said the tip of my fuel injector was broken so a bunch of gas was leaking into my intake. As a result my plugs were bad and the wires were replaced. After they fixed those things, it was worse. There was more smoke.

They ended up telling me they exhausted themselves researching the problem and had to give the truck back to me and told me to take it to a dealer, they didn’t make me pay a penny after saying it was going to cost me $625 to fix it.

Went to a Toyota dealer made my appointment, grabbed new oil and a filter on the way home.

Got home, got under my truck and instantly felt like an idiot. Realizing it wasn’t the oil I drained my last 2 oil changes, it was just a bolt on the skid plate it wasn’t bone dry after all.

Took out the bolt for the oil and it started pissing out 7 or 8 quarts of watery oil.

Filled it back up and a new filter and runs like a charm again.

Moral of the story, I’m an idiot. I shoulda listened to my fellow taco bros more closely, you guys called it. But I did get free plugs and wires and a fuel injector out of it and I learned a lesson. Thanks guys

Well bravo sir. So interesting how the engine was running poorly, with so much oil in it. Glad you got it all sorted. Easy enough.
