I personally don't have any experience with them, but my uncle owns one. His wife and him beat it to hell and don't maintain it for squat. They took it in because it was running like crap; the oil had likely never been changed, and was a tar like substance in the bottom of the pan. Kia said it would need a new engine, but they changed the oil, and it's been running better since. Pretty tough car.

I've heard nothing but good things about Kia. My dad has a mini-van with 120K+ with no issues and he loves it. My buddies ex-wife had the SUV brand new a few years ago. I don't talk to her at all anymore, but the first year of ownership, they were very satisfied.

the thing that impresses me is the 10/100 bumper to bumper.

Wow 270hp out of a 4banger via turbo? I would rather they had a v6 option. Why don't they? I vote that engine lives a short life unless you get the nonturbo, which will cause death by boredom. Plus no matter how sexy you think it is-when they see the badges the only reaction will be "oh.....it's a Kia"

The warranty is great but they are what they are, meaning a relatively cheap car. Kia will warranty things that break, mechanically they're fairly sound, but a lot of the plastic things (air dam, interior creature comfort stuff, etc) break easily and the paint chips easily as well. I'd give Hyundai a look also, similar warranties and I've heard much better things about them. Several of my friends have both makes and the Hyundais seem to be holding up better.

Seriously though, the new kias are wanta-bee honda's. I've done audio work on a couple of the new 2010-2011s and they are made pretty cheap

I know they say that the quality is getting better and the Waranty does sound nice But I always go back to the same thing. look around and tell me how many old kias do you still see on the roads Not to many. not enough anyways for me to believe that there quality has done a 180. May be after a few more years and I sart seeing more older models on the road then i might consider them. I'm actuall more impressed with the hiunda's these days. I always swore that I would never own one but if it came down to it I might be able to ee myself in one.

Well Kia and Hyundai have two bad things going for them, they are Kia's and Hyundai's. But I will say this, I see more and more people buying these vehicles and more and more people enjoying them. I know its a Kia, but Kia as well as Hyundai are making strides.

The car looks great and you cannot beat that warranty.

I never liked working on them...or saturns. Until they shake their cheap car stigma, I wouldn't buy one.

    Can't beat the warrantee...

The 2011 Optima is covered by Kia’s warranty program, which offers unprecedented consumer protection. Included in this program are a 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, a five-year/60,000-mile limited basic warranty and a five-year/100,000-mile anti-perforation warranty. A five-year/60,000-mile roadside assistance plan also is part of the vehicle coverage.

From my understanding, Kia got better as soon as Hyundai took over. Our company has a 01 Kia optima that had some problems but nothing major. A kia(forgot the name) but i think they dont make them anymore but its holding up well. We also have 2 sonatas, 4 door genesis and a 2 door, xg350, a 2011 non turbo sonata. Few of those vehicles have 120,000 - 180,000 + miles. Point being, korean cars are pretty dependable. Also, our 01 sonata had warranty work done at 99,000ish miles lol.

Edit* We have non korean cars too lol. A tundra with 190,000+ miles, another tundra with 100,000+, gmc1500 with 255,000+ miles, f150 with 185,000+ miles, frontier with 170,000 (few rebuilds), tacoma with 80,000 miles, also sold a land cruiser with 300,000+ miles. Might have been overkill but just wanted to justify that i've seen my share of "dependable" cars lol.
