Too late for a 2021?

So after nearly a year of waiting for a 2021 Ford Bronco (with no word on build date), I have come to the dark side. This will be my first new vehicle AND first Toyota. Figured if I can't beat 'em, join 'em!

I ordered a 2021 TRD Pro with a manual transmission in Lunar Rock on June 5th. I know I am SUPER late to the party for a '21, but I love the color and thought I would give it a shot. I was told 10-12 weeks from placing the order and this was supposed to include waiting for my allocation. My dealer says they get almost everything they request from Toyota and I tend to believe him because I am located near Detroit Michigan and most people around here drive American.

So now to the point. Is my dealer full of crap and production for 2021's is done? I read on here yesterday if I didn't have an allocation by tomorrow then I was hosed, but I called my dealer today and he said I had another 2-3 weeks before I was out of luck. He feels confident I will get it, but said I would be screwed if I wanted a 4Runner. Do I just sit tight and trust him or should I place more orders at additional dealers hoping one goes through? I have a bit of trust issues after Ford's Bronco debacle.

Thanks in advance for any advice you all can offer!

UPDATE (6/23): Found a 2021 Lunar Rock TRD Pro AT in Kansas and will be flying out to pick it up Saturday! From there, it's a long drive home!

If memory serves me correctly, my 2020 wasn't built until late August/early September so I'd probably believe your dealer.

Thank you! My salesman isn’t the most motivated guy in the world so that didn’t help my paranoia.

I am stupid excited for this truck!

Do you know if the Broncos can be completed?

What about Rangers? There seems to be less Rangers on the market than Tacomas.

I know they started production, but you have no idea the nightmare it is to get a build date unless you’ve also been a part of it the past year.

I reserved on the second day and ordered on the first day the order banks opened, but I likely won’t have mine built until next summer with the way things are going. Too many production issues from chips, to engines, to hard tops. Complete nightmare! I have been very active on Bronco6g with the username “Philly” so I’m acutely aware of everything wrong with the Bronco production and happy to cut my losses.

Rangers are a 16 week minimum lead time (according to my dealer) on orders right now. Not doing the Ford thing unless it’s for the Bronco.

Are you set on Lunar Rock, cause I'd wait for a 2022 Pro, you are getting an actual lift, better UCAs, new wheels, stamped body, etc. which based on your late build wont be too far behind, not to mention better resale.

Looks like ordering a Ranger is the only way to get the rear seat delete.

16 weeks? Wont those trucks be 2022s by then?

Probably. I talked to my dealer weeks ago, but that was as early as they could get an order filled. I’m sure if there were color changes or updates they would discuss beforehand.

I really love lunar rock and it’s probably the biggest reason I want a ‘21, but I also need a car of some sort by September. I’m not sure a 2022 would be in by then so I am trying to squeeze into production.

I was actually looking used until prices got so outrageous. My dealer is charging me 500 below MSRP so I figured I could live with that and going new was the better move. Plus, it’s hard to find a manual.

Yikes, I don't know, a manual LR and below MSRP in this climate, especially when the fleet orders for 2022 already opened up and supposedly plant is switching production, you really need to get some solid info from your dealer, seen this same story before, weeks go by and dealer has your deposit and knows you want something but can't fill your specific order so hopes you will take something else.

That’s what I’m afraid of, but honestly I don’t have much choice if I want something new. Dealers have almost no inventory. I guess I’ll just ride it out because I doubt one south east Michigan dealer will have better luck than another filling an identical order, right?

Depends on if the Tacoma gods like you or not. Posting a Jeep as your avatar tends to piss them off.

Fair enough, but it’s the daily driver for the time being and I didn’t want to use a picture of someone else’s rig. Fingers are crossed it won’t be my profile picture for long!

I think your chances of getting one are pretty slim, but good luck.

I'd source another dealer, I'm pretty skeptical there are any more LR pros planned for allocation let alone in MT, you need a dealer that can give you and actual spec / allocation sheet.

HA! My story is very similar to yours, except I canceled my order as soon as Ford was dropping the ball with the accessories, ordering, website/pricing issue. They really shit the bed. I got out of that quick and started hunting down a Pro. Hope you're able to get it, but id also jump on contacting other dealers about a 2022 ( I know there won't be Lunar), but at least you'd be one of the first in line for a 2022 Pro.

I'll also be pissed if you get a Lunar Pro before me, since I've been waiting since late March! haha!!

I’ve honestly contacted two other dealers and they’re giving me the same story, but the sales people seem slightly more motivated… but they also want $1000 deposits non refundable after I have a build scheduled and my current dealer only took $500 and it’s refundable at any time.

I even asked about allocations and if I had to get an auto to have one built or if it’s just out of the question and they’re kind of like, “well we can put the request in and hopefully Toyota wants to build it.” I hate all this unknown!
