I'm so frustrated with my new Fox 2.5s.

He won't need so much preload.

 

I don’t think you read my post, the spring RATES are different, the spring lengths are the same. A 3rd gen strut “lifts” a 2nd gen 3/4” (I’ve done this) because the spring rate is higher, therefore sags less. Again, same length, higher spring rate for a heavier 3rd gen.

I suppose we’re splitting hairs over my definition of “lift”, my experience swapping my 2021 struts to my 2007 taco is that they simply resisted sag.

 

To long, didn't read it all. But figured I'd share my setup for reference. Accutune fox 2.5 with 14" 700lbs springs. Sliders, skids, steel bumper, winch, arb twin compressor. Sitting at around 1.75 inches of lift with the coils sitting here 'see below" had them cranked to 2.75 lift but had a ton of bump steer and rode like poop.

I'm pretty sure it's the weight... 3rd gens have a heavier front end than 2nd gens.

 

Not how it works. Preload only changes ride height via a-arm angle (traveling your suspension), it doesn't make the spring any stiffer or less smooth. Your ride is garbage because of the steep a-arm angles resulting from the lift. A 650 at the same adjusted ride height will only be worse.

Ok so there is no way to have 2.3 inches of lift and good performance on these 0-3 inch shocks. Guess im SOL. Needs to be a disclaimer on these about only being useable at less than 2 inches of lift.

 

I think 14" 700lbs coils will get you a lot closer to where you wanna be. I can get 2 inches out of them and everything feels decent.

 

I’m sorry brother. I do such a crappy ass job communicating sometimes. How many inches is it? 33 inches, 35 inches? The fact that they are 315s is incredible.

880-06-418 from Cali Raised Off-Road and they absolutely 100% said these are designed to get 3” of lift on a 3 gen Tacoma. They informed me they install them every week on 3 gen Tacomas. How can you possibly use 33” tires without having 3” of lift???? You can’t without having massive rubbing. Ask me how I know.

 

What's your hub to fender measurement?

 

"Good performance" is all relative. What you say is terrible and harsh others will say is awesome and perfect. You can physically get the lift and plenty will claim it useable. But the further you angle down your a-arms the greater the fraction of disturbances are transmitted directly into the chassis.

 

So without the 3 inch lift how on earth are you using large tires? How many inch lift do you have on your truck over factory and what size tires are you using including diameter? Thanks.

 

Lift does not equal bigger tires. What happens when you compress the suspension? The lift goes away. The proper way to fit oversized tires is through proper wheel selection (offset and width) and short of that, trimming. There's plenty of blokes on limited or no lift, running 33's.

I have 33's and I'm no where near 3" of lift. But, I did a CMC.

 

Lift doesn't allow you to clear a larger tires... cutting, trimming, CMC, etc. does that. If you can't clear the tire at full stuff and lock, it is useless offroad and from a functionality standpoint.

 

Yeah? Well I’m on 33” tires as well. I have 285/R70/17 with -12 offset and my my rubbing is catastrophic. I also did a CMC. FYI I asked and asked here what to do before I purchased all my stuff and got ZERO input on this.

 

Not sure what "catastrophic" means in terms of rubbing... but, you should probably look into your alignment. What is your caster set at?

What UCA's are you running?

 

Not all CMC are equal and a negative offset isn’t going to help the problem… although the wheel offset means nothing without knowledge of the wheel width.
