Keep trying then. I would ask your therapist why you enjoy hanging out in a truck forum that focuses on a truck you repeatedly talk down about.

I recently worked on a hammock project for my wife and had trouble finding just 2 decent 6x6x8 treated posts at HD that weren't beat all to hell. $100 for 2 posts!

It is a truck and should be used as such.

I have 2 trailers. Just never have them with when I need them.

A smaller board crossing back of the bed, and tie downs on the load forward and cross ties at the back end of the load keeping it in and centered. A 5 foot bed can haul 8 foot lumber fine. No weight on the tailgate.

There'll be 5 feet in the bed and only 3 feet out. The balance point is a foot forward of the back end of the bed.

    2x4x8' in this area is pushing $10/ea. 100 @ $10/ea = $1000 + tax. You'll need an armed guard to ride along.

Trailer it or rent the HD truck.

We don't have a Home Desperate nearby. Although, Lowes and Menards are just a few blocks apart. I needed to haul a load of landscape block before I had the Tacoma. Lowes had the product LOML wanted but not a truck. Menards had a rental truck for $19.95/hr. I rented the green Menards truck with all the Menards badging to pick up the block from Lowe's. The Lowe's manager showed up, gave me a funny look, asked "Why?". I said, "You don't have a rental truck. Menards does." I finished loading and left.

Yard work is my stress relief. Plus we spend so much time back there, especially in the evenings, I try to keep it nice.

With a 5’ bed most of that 1000lb load will be well behind the axle. A cantilever multiplies the effect of the weight because it shifts front axle weight to the rear axle. The load itself might not exceed the axle or gvwr but put the truck on a scale and it would. I wouldn’t drive that way for a few let alone 100 miles. A 6’ bed might just barely manage it but would drive like a nose light pig.

This was 1400# i think and it didn’t have any issues besides the leaf springs being straight.

Yes, and that varies depending on *how* they're carried. He stated he needs 100. If they're treated (and with this being an outdoor structure, anything else is a waste of time), he could absolutely push above the payload rating.

Where on earth do you get that idea from? Don't put words in my mouth.
There's a reason the vehicle rated to tow 5000+ and yet *not* rated for that same load in the bed. Towed loads stress the vehicle in a different fashion.

Agreed - as long as you don't overload.
