Hello fellow Tacomers, happy Father's Day! I just joined today. I am replacing my 2009 2WD with a used 2020 TRD OR, V6, longbed 4WD from Carmax(hopefully). I love the vehicle and have a few a questions:
    1) anything special to look for? I am familiar with the tranny and mileage and comfort issues and mostly okay with what I have read and driven.
    2) I pulled down the rear seat and saw a missing plastic cover that attaches to the bed. Also, a loose wire is cut with ends taped and it seems to originate somewhere under the LH rear seat? They should replace the plastic cover, don't know what to do about the wire..
    3) on my 2nd test drive, I noticed the hood and some of the body panels have a clear decal over them. Is that a rock chip option or was this a business vehicle with a vinyl wrap or something?? It's perfectly done, looks factory. Piant color is white.
I hope it works out, it is exactly what I want.
    Cheers -Dave

Don’t forget, Toyota Super White paint is their worst paint ever and will start to flake off in a few years.

Wow, first I've heard of that, that is a huge disappointment. Do you know if that's still an issue on the 2020's?

Is that plastic cover from the tailgate? Did someone add the aftermarket power locking tailgate?

Sorry, I described it badly. When I pulled down the rear RH seat back, the plastic trim piece that covers the metal bodywork was missing. I could see the rear window motor exposed and some insulation blanket stuff. I can see where a panel is supposed to be. There. And on the floor, behind the seat a loose wire, almost looks like stereo wire that had the jack cut off?

Sounds like there was an aftermarket audio system that was installed and then removed. I'm guessing the taped up wires are power and ground from an amp. Just a guess.

That is strange. Did the Carmax people say anything about it? Could use your test drive to take it to your mechanic.

I was thinking similar, just need to bring a lamp to plug into the bed outlet to make sure it was not that wire haha.

That plastic panel was probably removed to make space for a subwoofer and amplifier, and the wire as said above was probably power for the amp. You ought to be sure the wire is dead ie no voltage on it, or have it traced back to wherever it goes and disconnected. Unless of course you have a use for it. Look under the hood, there might be evidence of it running to the battery there?

I'm going back this afternoon, so I'll dig into it with them for sure. BTW I saw a Tacoma TRD walking today (grey color) and it had the clear decal on the hood also. Must be an option or standard.

Was it a TRD Sport? Some people put a flat black decal on sun glare off of the scoop.

No it's the Off-road. White hood with clear decal. A flat black hood would be a good idea but I think the angle of the hood keeps it from reflecting in the eyes.

Anyone have any other issues to watch out for on a used 2020? I've read quite a bit, but, no major red flags I could find.

Sorry, I misread that as grey with a decal. Completely missed the clear part. So a paint protection film? A dealer might sell that as an add on, but most have it done afterwards. Usually at the same shop the dealer uses, but for half the price of it as a dealer installed option.

please post a pic. I'm guessing it's paint protection. Check the headlights, bumper and fenders. There is a good chance they also have PP film installed.

I've heard or seen that before. I've heard the black paint is very soft, but I see a lot of older Tacos, both white and black, that still look really nice!

I have a 2020 longbed, love it. TRD OR V6. From the factory it should have clear paint protection on the bedsides and smaller pieces at the cab corner. Some dealers also add door edge guards and cup guards under the door handles. I also added a clear bra to the hood, fenders and mirror caps because Arizona roads are notorious for rock chips.

The wiring, as others have mentioned definitely sounds like there was a sub and amp installed behind the seat. Shouldn't be an issue.
