New member here...just got a 21 TRD Pro and checking all the settings out. I noticed the gauges were really dim so I turned the little control in the center left and right. It makes the center LCD brighter or lighter but it has no effect on the gauges.

When the headlights are on you can make the entire IP lighter or brighter. When the headlights are off it only makes the LCD lighter or brighter the gauges have no backlight at all in the daytime.

    Is this normal?

    Thanks!

Thanks. I’ve been wondering the same thing as OP and I’ve been too lazy to read the manual.

This is definitely an annoying “feature”. I guess toyota wanted to save some electrons during the day.

This may be silly, but maybe try to put a book over the light sensors on top of the dash and see if that helps? Might take some time since I'm sure it's averaged (tunnels, etc). If you try then let us know!

wow that's crazy....thanks for the response guys. I was going to go back to the dealer tomorrow and say wth...I just got it yesterday. With a tint and the all black interior the gauges need to be backlit. I wonder if that's an option somewhere in techstream?? hmmm maybe I will go and ask service.

I've been looking for a solution to this as well. I have a '21 limited, and with the Day Time Running lights setting, it illuminates the instrument panael. However, because you've turned it off the auto setting, you need to flip on the lights when its dark.

If there was a way to have the tack and speedo illuminated at all times, that'd be awesome for me.

It's not in techstream that I've noticed.

Your quick fix is to turn on your parking lamps.
