Just joined the "taco" world. Got rid of my 99 4runner and bought an 06 tacoma access TRD Off-Road.

I know all about 4runner problems and fixes but am blind to tacomas problems.

Is there a list of common problems and fixes.... as well as things you can do to avoid them?

Any help would be great! My truck runs, drives and smells brand new.... and would like to keep it that way!!

Thanks! Loving the truck so far. Took me a long time to find the right one... and i had to drive to troy, mi (1-1/2 hours away) to get it!!!! Nobody wants to sell theirs!

It was owned by a toyota engineer, and is certified. Can't beat 2.9 percent financing either!

    Heres a pic

With '06's I'm not sure. I take it, it's used so most of the problems you would witness with a "lemon" are probably passed or just never happened. When I first got my 2010, brand new, I had some odd noise coming from the alternator...white lithium grease fixed that...

Still have some other problems to fix but haven't had time due to school. Right now just witnessing the AC/Heater has an odd ticking noise which should be fixable (apparently leaves in the vent), and brakes already squeak...again an easy fix. Just pissed off that it happened so soon.

But yeah, with an 2006 if you have no problems yet, you should be good. All of the minor ticks are probably already worked out. Just post back if you have any problems. Be sure to search first because people rip their hair out if they see the same thread twice.

Weird, i have a slight tick (have to listen hard) with my vents on. Sounds like one of the blowers need oiled maybe.

Mine is certified, so i have a 100,000 mile warranty, that covers everything that is not normal wear parts.... it even covers electrical, so i may take it in for the squeaky vent.

Yes, there are a few things I have found out. Yes the front cv shafts are suppposed to have "that" much play in them (drivers side seems to worse). Sometimes when you are at the stoplight in town you will notice a lurch like the truck wanted to go..... It happens to me too.. you need to get a quality alignment or you will develop some wobble in the steeringwheel. Oh, I almost forgot, your blower fan will start to make a ticking noise soon, learn to love it. Some times I just turn off the radio and relish in its splendor :p. they are truely awesome trucks! I have loved mine more and more since the day I got it. Few quirks but who doesnt?? ;) WELCOME!

Ok so here it is - and don't tell the Moderators I told you this. There is some kind of spell cast on this site, if you keep visiting it you will spend a LOT of money. Just take a look at member builds, many of them don't even know how much they spent. Oh ya - but its so damn much fun, once I got started I can't stop - I can't stop.- I can't stop- I can't stop- I can't stop.

Your fuel mileage won't be as good as you think it should be, and your tailgate is alot weaker than you think it should be. When your overhead compass craps out do NOT take it to the dealer, fix it yourself.

Other than that you'll love it!

There is a sticky at the top of the second Gen. forum with the listed TSBs. Basically free work Toyota will do to your truck. Check them out.

that "hmmm" sound you hear when you first start the truck and drive off is normal.

if your tire pressure light comes on..check the spare tire.

your motor mounts will most likely never break despite what you read here.

redline sythetic in the rear diff, front diff, AND transfer case.

yes,,the stock tires and wheels look fine with a 3" lift.

    yes..stock oil filter please..no FRAM.

no, you cannot run a coffee maker with the plug in the bed..yes it will run next year's christmas lights.

no, the sport guys hood scoop is not real.

    etc.
