I have a 2020 Tacoma TRD 6 speed manual. I was towing a Lowe's Roughneck Archer 2070 (weighs roughly 2000 lbs). Noticed it struggled on hills, while pulling out on a road that had a fairly steep incline, the truck completely stalled out, even putting it in 4 wheel low, it still stalled out. Had to be pulled up onto the main road. Any fix or do I have a lemon?

Are you sure you started out in 1st or maybe second gear? If you were accidently in a taller gear, you would most likely stall it with that load.

No sir, I did not start in 2nd! It actually did the same thing when trying to back it up into my shop which is on a slight incline.

I just checked and the 2.7 can tow 3500 pounds and the 3.5 can tow 6400 pounds . Not sure what's going on with your situation .

It is under warranty, was just curious if anyone else had experienced anything like this. Only 18k miles, hated to have to deal with the headache if this thing is a lemon and they keep trying to do quick fixes on it over and over.

Could the trailer tongue have been dragging due to incline?

Is your emergency brake engaged? Are the trailer wheels spinning freely? Do you know for a fact that they are? Do you have a bad wheel bearing in the truck axle? Is it possible something is frozen up or nearly so?

No problems except when the trailer is being towed?

Otherwise take the truck in to be checked out.

    The trailer
Are you sure? There are some hydraulic trailer brake systems that require no electrical connection to your tow vehicle.

I just realized this was a boat trailer. Boat trailers that have brakes are usually hydraulic. There is a Master cylinder in the trailer tongue that actuates the calipers or wheel cylinders.

I'm curious how this comes out.

You can push the trailer around by your hand on a flat surface. There is no braking system on the trailer. Emergency brake was not engaged. I bought the truck brand new in Sept of 2020, I just bought the boat less than a month ago brand new. Truck pulls fine unless you are taking off on an incline.

Does the truck feel fine taking off on an incline without the boat behind it?

Surge brakes (hydrolics) don't engage if you are pushing the trailer around by hand. Trailer brakes also, usually, have an emergency lanyard that engages the brakes if the trailer disconnects by accident from the tow vehicle. Considering the things we see on these threads, it is not unreasonable to assume someone might not know they have brakes on a trailer. People here are trying to solve your problem without being in physical proximity, with limited information. Have some patience.

I have a tritoon that has trailer brakes, this trailer does not have brakes. This is the first time I've pulled anything with this truck. I have diesel that I usually pull everything with. I figured the tacoma wouldn't have any issues pulling a 2000 lb boat, but it did.
