    Hello all,

Ordered a replacement air filter box due to the tabs being broken on my original.
Has a quarter20210620_230250[1].jpg 20210620_230327[1].jpg inch gap and you can see the filter. Noticed a filter type element with
a screen over it attached to the top air filter box cover. The replacement doesn't have this. Is this something I can order. Haven't found it yet or what it's called.
    Thanks in advance

Why would someone put a charcoal filter on the engine intake? Cabin, I get.

Besides the fact that charcoal is one of the best filter medias in the world? Probably there for the people who take their truck on lots of dirty, dusty off roading

It's to catch hydrocarbons that don't get sucked into the engine when the engine is shut off. Much like the charcoal cannister on the fuel tank

As other said, it's a charcoal filter to prevent fuel vapors from back-flowing out of the engine into the atmosphere when the engine is off. If you don't live in a state with visual inspection as part of emissions checks (e.g. California), you can leave the lid as-is. The missing filter won't affect function or set codes. Some 4-cyl guys intentionally rip out the filter for placebo power gains.

The 2ndary filter is plastic-welded to the lid, so I don't think it's sold as a separate part.

No, I know it is a great filter media. That said, I'd question it for capturing dust--isn't that the point of air filter to begin with? Then again, more filtration is a good thing until it's limiting below the requirement of the engine combustion.

I think it’s for off roading purposes. Don’t want dust getting into the intake
