Transfer case blown seal...

    So how hard is it to change out the Front seal in the t-case.

    Noticed a little bit of a leak and topped off transfer case. Now...it's pouring lol.

    Napa can't get seal until tomorrow.

    Sorry just t case, just replaced the front Differential axle seals last week lol.

    The Front seal of the Transfer case ?

    Do you mean the one where the output shaft from the transmission goes in?/ This means pulling the transmission and case out

    The one at the front drive shaft? this one is much easier

    That seal is not quite the same as the one in tims video, it's actually a lot easier. You can drive the seal through the hole into the case if you're not careful and I put silicone on the shaft splines.

    So its just about the same.

    I'm assuming removed front draft shaft, undo the nut to the flange, pull flange off and bam...theres the seal. Sounds easier than replacing the carrier bearing I just did.

    Is the front t-case nut a 24mm?

    The nut is the same part number as the rear according to the diagram:

    36104D: 90179-22016

    And because I between meetings, I was able to head out to the garage- 90179-22016 is a 30mm nut.

    Edit: The video posted above also has that nut as a 30mm.

    That nut is a stake nut. While I've reused mine, Toyota suggests it is a one-time use part. This is the one for my truck: 90179-22016

    I've always had trouble with reused staked nuts coming loose. I would highly suggest for the $4 bucks that new ones are used. Different case if it's a trail on the road situation, but that doesn't seem to apply here.

    Thank you all for the info, still haven't done the job yet.. I did replace the front struts and was gonna tackle it but I am still trying to find something to use to drive the seal in. Also decided to go ahead and replace the nut.
