I particularly enjoyed skiing the Rocky Ribbons of Death. Those were fun. But a shitty day of skiing is still a great day in my book!

I got to ski in the morning, and then do a few hours of Mountain Biking. So double sport day was fun.

Nope. I just got back late last night and unpacked before night fall. Truck drives fine. I'm leaning towards a drive shaft issue now as it was making the noise under load even out of 4x.

Exactly. A typical Saturday for me goes like this: Wheel, climb, shoot, mt bike, fish, wheel, home. lol

You made the right call. I didn't finish welding my rig's frame up until 2pm yesterday. So a recovery or parts run would have been very late. lol

Heading up the 395 in a few weeks with my dad for a fishing trip. He booked a site at French Camp to fish Crowley and convict. Any easy/scenic trails nearby I should check out to get my truck dirty for a few hours?

Quick and easy ones in the area are Laurel Lakes, Tobacco Flat up to McGee mountain, Chidago/Red Canyon loop, Crowley stone columns. Make sure to be careful about remaining snowbanks on Laurel/McGee, see my post above for how to have a bad time on one. Chidago/Fish Slough road has lots of petroglyphs if you know where to look. The stone columns might require a bit of hiking to get to them.

Gas in Lee Vining a couple days ago. In Bridgeport it was 5.35$ for regular. I'm happy to be driving a fuel-effecient vehicle.

Thanks will research these areas before I head out. I'm a 2wd but have experience off-road. Want to avoid snow and deep sand.

    Not at all.

Lightning strike is listed as the cause.

I heard there was also a small brushfire near Manzanar. Hope fires are contained quickly.

It's still as can be and threatening rain is Bishop right now. If they have the same weather in LP they should be able to knock it down quick. Hopefully they do. I'd like just one year without a smoke filled valley.

    YES please!

For those who haven't experienced Eastern Sierra smoke, this was taken a year ago during the Creek Fire -- the world was orange.

As much as smoke sucks that's a pretty cool photo of the Minerets. The first climb my wife and I ever did was the SE Face of Clyde. That tall point on the that very hazy skyline.

Headed to Mammoth tomorrow and going to take a slight diversion: Mazourka Canyon --> Squaw Mine --> Papoose Flat --> Squaw Flat --> The Narrows --> to Death Valley/Big Pine Road.

Is anyone familiar with the Squaw Mine? Any cool stuff to see around Papoose or Squaw flats? I'm familiar with the buildings at the narrows. Anything else I should see?

I've been to the summit of Mazourka Peak before.
