Yeah I don’t foresee any highly dynamic situations putting the rear at a dangerous full bump, just slow crawling and stuffing under more static forces.

I’m just wondering if it’s best to mount the axle tab when you only have a little or no shaft showing at full stuff, axle parallel? That way droop can always be maximized. I don’t know if I’m explaining that how it’s in my mind.

Yeah I was halfway kidding, but honestly it might be more safe that way- keep tires on, jack stands flush with frame, gently sit the bucket down in the bed, chain the bucket to the tow hooks on the bumper for a safety factor of two (lol) jack from the center of the diff, remove tires and cycle knowing it’s being wedged between the stands and tractor bucket.

Maybe if you combined that with breaking the leaf pack down. Then you’d get the best of both worlds.

when I did mine, I really erred on the side of caution. I set my tabs so my shocks would bottom out if my bump basically fell off, since I have soft bumps.

That’s the ticket. Double safe and still redneck enough to keep up appearances around here.

I may be trying to protect the wrong thing. I thought the shocks would be more sensitive to a severe bottom out than the bump stop.

Yeah you can err on the side of caution and give yourself about 1/2” shaft to be safe. That’s what I do because if my bump strike pad breaks apart then I will still be safe.

But yeah setting the shock at full bump when the bump is at full bump is going to be how you maximize travel. Then realistically your springs should be what sets your ride height at that 60/40, 40/60 or inbetween. But again there’s so many pieces to the puzzle that can effect things. Setting my rear shocks from 0psi to 150psi raised my ride height almost 1.5”. These are just general guidelines to keep in mind or design factors to aim for

Good point and good thinking. It’d take a good bit of force to full stuff a Dakar pack like that. Would hate to know what payload would do that naturally haha

I don’t think so. The mount is already high up on the frame at some spots. I’m sure if you were able enough to add gussets or fill in any areas that were up higher, sure. I would definitely use some sort of cross bar as they will have a lot of leverage on the frame that high up.

I have 14 in shocks on mine. They hang low. A little lower than the leaf pack.

These are the only thing I could find from a few years ago. Trying to flex it out to see how much room I had off the shock without spacers at the time. I’m sure I would still rub at full bump and articulation but I’ll rarely see that condition.

Looks like it’s keeping the limit straps from flying around maybe?

Exactly. Just keeps them oriented the way you want them to be

yeah. I let somebody install limit straps without running it by me. I would of out them the other orientation. It keeps them from folding out under the bump stop or the wheel area.

Damn, sweet setup. Not having to deal with spacers would be a big bonus. I figured if mine rub i'd rather try a more offset wheel first

That’s with 3.5 BS. I’m running 1.25 spacers right now. Going to cut this all off and redo it soon.

yeah I would leave 1/2” of shaft still showing for safety factor when flexed. Last thing you want is having the shock bottom out before the bump because of the difference in placement between the shock and bump when flexed. I’ve got 12” smoothies on my setup with archive mounts and shackle flips. If I ran hammer hangers I would have ran 14’s with the mounts but the shackle flips ended up bottoming to the leaf pack and stoping my articulation from going up any more. But it’s all getting torn out this winter so… :lalala:

Do I hear an echo??? (Cycle...cycle...cycle) lol

For what it’s worth; I spent probably 16-20hrs cycling my suspension on this latest setup to get things right. Had my design parameters I was reaching for and took I think 7 or 8 attempts to get close enough to meet design parameters. Heavy tack things in, cycle, cut off, and repeat

pretty much…. Lol. Just wanted to answer his specific question about leaving some shaft showing for flex.
