It’s only a few screws and only the gauge cluster comes out. Plus get it from Rough Country and it’s only $100-150 depending on sale or coupon codes available.

What are you guys doing as far as a spare? I have a 255/85/16 still tucked up underneath from two sets of tires ago. It was pretty close to same height when I was running 33’s. But now I’m not sure what to do.

is there a size close to these in a 16in rim or should I buy a 17 rim and 285/75?

also, has anybody got a 285/75 to fit in the bay underneath?

Was informed on the PRO you can put them on with a "very slight" rub but not on UCA or LCA, anyone else verify?

The TRD Pro comes with 16" wheels, and these wheels have the magic offset that allows a *285/75/16* to work without rubbing.

If you have custom wheels there is no Pro magic. If you have stock Pro wheels you are in the wrong thread.

I am using a full size 285/75/17 spare, 17×9 wheel, and Geolanders MT. Uhhmm... there was a post somewhere in this thread on how to fit a full size spare tire in the factory location, which I followed as well(thank you and credit to that person).

What I did, relocate the spare tire bracket, chopped the exhaust along with the exhaust hanger, and aired down my full size spare to 16psi.

Pictures added for reference. Only thing I worry about is melting the tire from the exhuast. I think the tire is pretty robust, so it should be okay. But I'm trying to find a good heat sheild solution for it. I did buy some heat sheild one sided tape and I am using that for the time being.

    Hope this helps!

Edit: Third thumbnail shows how close the tire is to the diff.

Good info! Now when you said you relocated the bracket, did you just turn it a different way or did you have to drill new holes? Thankfully, I've not been down there in quite some time lol Running the same tires as you. Love my G003's.

Also, let me ask you guys this. My current spare is a 255/85/16. Ive had it under there for about 2 years when I had those size tires on there. I then moved to 285/70/17's and just kept that 255 is a spare since its essentially the same height, just skinnier. Now that I'm up to 285/75's its a little bigger of a difference. Do you think that 255/85/16 is good enough to keep as a spare for emergency situations? I'm not a big 4WD guy, so I'm not talking about making it another 75 miles in the back country on a 3 day expedition (although I'd love to live that life). I'm talking I have a flat on my way to work and need to make it maybe 10 miles to a service station.

The difference in height is 33.83" vs 33.07"

I still have my old 285/75R16 as my spare in the bed.
Moving to 255/85R17. I’ll keep it as the spare until I can get a FJ 17x7 steel spare to have a matching.
Basically my spare is to get me off the trail. If need can get down the road to get a tire replaced if needed.

I got my wheels this week, ill be slapping on tires after some 4th of july sales.

Was wondering if its going to fit in the OEM spare location... And if "it fits" will be good enough for me to not be concerned about it.

But im pretty sure ill end up with my spare strapped down in my bed and ill be placing an order for a rear swingout bumper lol

So from what I remember there are 4 existing holes for the bracket. I removed the bracket and drilled two new holes closest to the tow hitch and used two existing holes. Hope that makes sense and paints a picture. Pretty self explanatory when you get underneath the spare tire location and remove the bracket. Let me know how it goes!

EDIT: Oh yeah I forgot to tell you that you have to hammer in the OEM spare tire brackets too. I just used a deadblow hammer and went at it. Wear ear protection too if you decide to do that underneath your truck bed. It gets loud haha!

He was referring to the 285/75/R17 roughly an inch taller but similar width

Im not familiar with any 16" sizes that would work well, there may be some.
but the problem you may run into even with a 17" is due to rim specifications your new "full size 285/75 spare" may not fit up front, it may rub UCA or Frame or somewhere you werent ready for because the tire is in a new place (using the spare wheels spec's).

So with tires this big, id recommend a matching full size spare wheel that has the required specifications you need to make sure it clears well enough to drive. Whether its to a nearby service center or another 2 days on the trail.

Edit. although you can probably make most wheels work in the rear, I just didnt want to cut corners. I wanted a spare mutha fuckin wheel lol

Yes, a 285/70/17 will fit. 285/75/17 will not fit without some modification.
