What is the correct way to wire my Alpine headunit dimmer wires to my metra harness?: check the vid and see if you can help. Do not want to jack any thing up.
    1) No orange wires connected at all?
    2) Alpine orange to Metra orange/white stripe?
    3) Alpine orange to Metra orange/white stripe and orange/black stripe to black ground?
    4) or Alpine orange to Metra orange/black stripe?

    any help would be great!!

I believe solid orange and orange with white stripe are equals. On my harness they are both indicated by the wiring diagrams as illumination. The odd one out is the orange/black which both the scosche and my harness don't have. None of these harnesses call for a ground for the illumination so I would leave the orange black alone, since its not on the h/u harness but the metra adapeter harness. Since you are using butt connectors its easy enough to change of that doesn't work.

you might want to wire it up without the illumination connected at first. that way you can see if your alpine unit is too bright for you at night. the reason i point this out is that on alot of head units, when you have your lights on driving on a rainy day when its still light out, can be hard to see. This mainly applies to navigation/video units.

I looked at a scosche wiring harness and there is only a sold orange wire in the same location on my metra harmess that has a orange/white stripe wire. What to do? hook up the sold orange wire to the orange/white on my metra harness? or risk: horror stories that after installs the dash lights do not work and fuses/relays or dimmer switches can get fryed. Oh yeah and the possible frying the rheostat ($100 part) not exactly what I want to do.

Well maybe this will help... I purchased an Alpine CDA-117 from Crutchfield and it came with a Scosche wiring harness. The Scosche harness diagram listed the Orange/White connected to the HU Orange. I called a Crutchfield tech to verify this. The Scosche harness Orange/Black had no connection. Good luck!

Both the orange and orange and white wires are for radio illumination. Go ahead and splice them together.

I sliced the solid orange to the orange/white and all was good. There was no orange/black.

How did it turn out? If you look at my thread about the Sony XNV-770BT install, you can see in my harness that I spliced an orange wire to an orange/white.
