Ok, I need some input. I've just ordered a 3 inch lift kit and I need new tires desparately. I am an area rep for the company I work for and drive about 2K miles a month. But I do a lot of pulling off the side of the road in the country in GA, back country driving down some nasty roads, dirt roads and shallow rivers when camping. And I tow my bass boat a bunch, which is a small 16 foot boat on a single axle trailer.

Ok, there's my driving habits. I want an aggressive looking tire and something that will hold up to the driving I do.

Walmart has some duratrac looking tires called Wrangler Authority. The price mounted and balanced for 4 is $708 plus tax (7%).

    Or

Local shop has some BFG AT KO set of 4 for $800 including tax.

So about a $50-60 difference but the Authority looks way tougher. Although I can't find any estimated tire life for them and some say they only get 40K miles out of the duratracs so I'm not sure if that is accurate. Others say possible to get 60K out of the BFG's but that seems a little long or maybe they really run them bald???

What kind of input can you all lend me so I can make this decision quickly. Thanks in advance!

Mind you it is a larger diesel 3/4 ton...still good to know

Also, it is a "Wal-Mart specific tire" made by Goodyear for walmart. What concessions were made to make it cheap for Mr Walton's empire?

Bullets, i have the authorities right now on the the exact same truck as you. I think there 265/75/16. 5K on them. heres whats up with them. They haven't cracked or chipped. Not obnoxiously loud on highway. Great traction on wet roads. However alittle dissapointing offroad. sand/awful, Mud/satisfactory, dirt and gravel/ great.... Me personally i wouldn't get them again, for the money you can do better..sorry no pics!!!

I was also looking at the GY authority after I came across them at wal mart. Cant decide between these and the Duratracs.

Ok thanks everyone. Although I really want some aggressive looking tires that will perform well on the few and far between off road excursions I do. I guess I'm going to go with the BFG's.

Although, what about the BFG mud terrains. Anyone know what kind of mileage they get? Or should I just stick with the AT's?? Crap I really want some cool tires LOL!

Well I've decided to go with the BFG AT's. I've got a set of 265/75/16's on order...weird thing was that they said they would give me 285's for the same price. I was really tempted but didn't really want to run into any rub issues and I've been told compared to the 265's the 285's are just for looks.

Other good news my lift kit came in and I got it installed this past weekend. Took me about 6-7 hours by myself to do it. It is just a spacer kit but I love the look and I really don't do any serious off road'ing as mentioned before in my previous post.

Here's some pics of the before and after the lift. The front is still a little high in the pictures because it hadn't settled yet as was sitting about 6-7 inches higher than before I started. I pick up my new tires some time this week so I'll update with new pictures after that install.

    Check it out.

You'll be happy with the A/Ts. My truck rode and drove so much better after I switched to the A/Ts from the Rugged Fails that came on the truck.

Looks good! Now the question is . . . white letters in or out?

I'm going with white letters out. I think it will look best since I've got the white truck. I've had the white hidden with my current tires and every time I see a white truck with the letters out I think they look better.

i have a set of the wrangler authorities in 265/75 on my tacoma. I have also had bf goodrich a/t's before on a wrangler. these tires are a great value for the money. $700 for a set vs. $900 for the BF goodrich AT. I've run them 17,000 miles so far and the tread has not gone down much yet. 14/32" left vs. 18/32 when they were new. looks like they will last 50,000 no prob. noise level is not bad, its what you would expect from an agressive looking tire. anyone looking to get them i say go for it.

Well I finally got the tires the week before last and I decided to take a picture before and after I ran it through the wash. Sorry for the poor quality pics I took them with my droid. Unfortunately, the tires didn't come out to good but I'm really happy with the outcome so I thought I'd share.
