I use a corrosion inhibiting grease on all of the exposed lugs on my relays.

    97944 by TRUCK-LITE - NYK - 77 Corrosion Preventative Compound 2 Oz. Tube (finditparts.com)

    Somewhat messy, but very effective.

Now this has me thinking about the relays being exposed. Anyone else having issues?

My plan for the Tundra was to use a GEP and mini relays. I’d be game to try to build a harness for others if someone wants to spend. Parts wise it gets a bit expensive and I don’t have any intention of building a bunch of them or anything. The H4 connectors are a little annoying to source and then there is the whole fact that they aren’t sealed either. On top of that, GEP stuff is backordered and I just used up my last one for a light bar harness for someone.

Photos of how a 12 position GEP looks with two Omron relays.

DRL Light bar harness (same basic concept)

Super lube also works for dielectric if you guys have that on hand for your poly bushings.

Does the headlight harness help with longevity of the bulbs? I recently went from stock to the Philips Racing Vision +200 and one side died in about 3 months.
If I do headlight harness + Osram Superbrights, will the Osrams last just as long as stock bulbs? Hoping not to have to change bulbs every 2-3 months. Thanks

Depends how much driving u do at night. I’d estimate anywhere from 6 months to a year. I’ve only had mine in for a month.

Just the opposite actually. The bulbs will burn out faster since they will have more voltage and amperage.

Do you have your headlights on all the time? My first set of Racing Visions (+150's) had about 1 1/2 years on them, I installed new ones because I was going on a long trip but probably didn't need to. Another issue with bulbs dying fast is not cleaning them before installing. Use some Isopropyl Alcohol and a soft microfiber to clean them before installing.

I'm still interested in how the Morimoto's will test even though I don't like the look.

But I think Alpharex's did a lot better on the looks and they even incorporated a switchback running light/turn signal. Still can't believe Morimoto missed the mark on that. Though I know the performance will likely be lacking by comparison, even to an H4 upgrade I would imagine.

I believe you got that backwards, bulbs should last longer with better current flow. I think it says so on the website for the harness as well. I got almost exactly 2 years out of my last set of Osrams.

No - you've got it backwards. Because V=IR, running a given bulb at higher voltage (and therefore higher current) makes it burn hotter/brighter which shortens its life. The 2 years you got from your Osrams is great, but it has nothing to do with running the bulbs at a higher output level.

    This ^^ is spot-on.

Negative sir. More voltage and amperage will make the filament hotter thus reducing longevity. Only about 5% of the energy input is used for light output, the other 95% is heat.

No problem!! Always a good day to learn something new!! I will admit, electrical can be tricky at times. This thread is all about educations!

@Norton @TacoFergie I knew that more juice creates more heat and less life span, i thought i remembered seeing in this thread that the more consistent current made for longer life span. My limited electrical knowledge is kicking me for the statement now. What's the saying...? "I know just enough to be dangerous" After reading into it further, has anyone seen or tried using a voltage regulater to limit or keep the voltage consistent and extend bulb life? Not that these bulbs are expensive or hard to change, but im just curious if its been tried.
