So without a CD player it looks like I am now forced to turn that over a USB stick. Okay then. One done and 599 more to do. But there is a dilemma here.

I use my phone, an android, for android auto. It requires the front dash USB to work. So too does this stick for music. Am I just simply SOL here? Is there an affordable CD unit which works with bluetooth perhaps?

    Thanks,
    Bill

There are a couple of threads dealing with this. You can get bluetooth transmitters that work with old style portable CD players, also FM transmitters. If you need to keep your forward USB port clear for the Android auto then you'll need to power the CD player from the 12v outlet. I found some issues with Apple car play not liking to have Bluetooth running at the same time but that may just require more research. The USB port in the arm rest could be part of your solution.

I've seen the million threads. There are very few with a solution other than spotify or something like that instead of ripping. Yes, I've seen a thread or two mentioning the AUX to BT adapter. I have yet to see where it worked for someone. I'll keep searching. Thanks!

Why not just load your songs onto your phone and have android auto and music at the same time. No need for 2 connections.

Indeed. I suppose I can figure that out. Phone actually belongs to the company. Maybe if I get a burner I could connect both phones, using the burner just for music?

I can't help as I have an iPhone but I think it shouldn't be too difficult to load the phone with music and run it with Android auto. Too bad it's a work phone. Might suck having to have 2 phones.

Try a USB hub - see if the front dash unit will recognize two different USB devices...

Sorry, I should have been a little more specific. The portable cd player works. You need to plug it into the 12v. I had the bluetooth adapter working which was plugged into the USB in the arm rest, and it seemed to interfere with carplay when I had that plugged into the forward USB. I used a 2x for the 12volt and had the cd player and the FM adapter working both plugged into the the 12v. All of these are kind of klunky, lots of wires running about. The neat 200-300 buck cd player wouldn't help you as it goes into the front USB.

Finally tested a hub. There are a few cases:
    1) two USB sticks - works fine and can choose either one
    2) USB stick plus Android - so this depends on what is found first. In all cases it is one or the other but never both.

So it seems that at least for a 2021, if Android then not anything else for USB. Tried a total of 3 hubs with this, usb2 and 3.

Bottom line, no go. Now there is Pandora. Quality isn't that great. B-sides non-existent. Guess I could pay for some other service for music like spotify or something. With over 600 CDs though I already HAVE a lot of music for which I already paid. Still thinking a burner might be an answer I suppose. I'll have to test if I can have Android to USB and a bluetooth device at the same time. Meanwhile I know I have a boom box someplace or did that go to Goodwill?

    Sigh...I hate change!

Upload your music to youtube music (used to be called google play music). Then you can stream it from the app, or download for listening.

It seems that the system doesn't like two different USB sources. When I was running the system with Carplay I could not get the bluetooth transmitter with my old sony walkman to work. What does work is the FM transmitter hitched to the old Walkman but you will need a doubler for the 12 v power socket.

Some of us have large CD unscratched CD collections and don't want to bother converting them. And some of us borrow electronic books from our local libraries to use on long

    Be kind, rewind…

check with someone more familiar with the wiring harness for the new units. It may be possible to “aux”, which would then just need a 12v CD. (Hint: old Hondas had CD as a separate unit for under the FM/cassette unit.)

I hear the ridgeline has a CD player. All joking aside, back in the day we installed 6 disk changer in the trunk of our cars and then ran an fm modulator on the radio to get cd to play in our cars that had tape decks. would that work?

My disease started with albums. Having music that I could control. Listen to stuff you couldn't hear on the AM dial until FM came along and played whole albums at a time. There were iterations of taking that music along with you for those rides when you got a license. 8 tracks. Cassettes. Both awful. But then came CDs. But I digress. Reading albums, you know the liner notes? Hearing Miles. Reading and finding Cannonball perhaps. Maybe Jimmy Smith played on something with that B3 and you find him and buy an album or CD. And the collection grows. It's interrelated in ways.

Now, with digital only, do you know who is playing flute on that track? How about bass guitar on that one. Or slide guitar? It just doesn't matter anymore. And that's a shame. But I don't take offense when you tell me the 90's are calling. I just feel saddened that you missed something. Something bigger than merely listening to music. You just never appreciated the talent and creativity in the same ways. So yes, I still play albums. And I play my CDs. And maybe I'll give up on this Toyota thing in my dash for Android Drive or whatever it is and just throw a USB stick in there instead. And when I want to use Waze to travel I'll just stick the phone on my dash like I did in the 90's since something's got to give and it won't be my music.

He’s not alone - I have RECORDS! I also have plenty of CDs (was a member of lala before they went digital and sold to Apple). I have ripped them all to a NAS and only go back to the source if I want to re-rip, or someone asks to borrow or trade. I also have some cassettes I’m not proud of … but they are probably irreplaceable as bands live/demos.
