How long did you have to wait for your 2021 factory order?

I've had a couple of dealers who blew me off a month ago start to call to try to sell me a truck. I'm hoping that's a sign that inventory and demand will start to level out soon. I still haven't heard whether Toyota has accepted my order...it will be a month on Thursday since I paid the deposit.

 

Your experience sounds similar to mine. I put a deposit down in mid-may. Last I heard, the inventory manager said his rep has told him they'll get an allocation for it in July, but who knows?

 

They told me to expect to have to wait 3-4 weeks. This is week 4, so I'm really hoping I'll hear something this week. If I don't, I may have to go back to shopping around.

 

I work for a toyota dealer and handle the special orders. The factory is not accepting many changes right now. We are kind of getting what we get. The model year change over should be taking place soon as well which makes it even more difficult to submit changes to allocated inventory.

 

Picked up my Tacoma from the dealer yesterday.
SR5, 4x4, AC, LB, Red and a few extra doo-dads I wanted.
I told my salesman about some of the stories I read on here about extra $2000-$5000 added at dealerships and he said he's heard of it but obviously they don't.
Ordered it in March and I drove it home on 21 June. Price quoted when I first talked to them was what I paid for it - and all I had given them was the usual $500 deposit with nothing else signed.
A couple of the normal 'you want this added' stuff to which I said nope, and no further discussion.
Very pleasant and friendly experience with absolutely none of the dealer drama or aggravation I see so much of on here.
I really think so much depends on a decent dealer and good service department.
To all those whose truck is still in some nebulous pipeline I feel for you, hope you get your truck soon - it's worth the wait - I really like this truck!

Ordered my taco 3/24 and got it 5/18.

 

Original order 12/23/2020. Dealer never could get one. In April one popped up on Toyota’s inventory site. My dealer said he couldn’t get it but told me the dealers name. Called them and salesman said he thought it was already sold but would call me back. Fifteen minutes seemed like days. He called and said if I wanted it I could have it. Arrived June 21st and I am driving 400 plus miles Friday to pick it up. TRD Sport 4x4 longbed. Wind chill pearl. Premium package, tech package and LED lights. Can’t wait to pick it up

 

Just put the deposit down on a Limited with the night shade package and a couple other offers. Worried that by the time I get it interest rates will double. I know they don't produce nearly as many limited's as some of the other models. Does anyone have experience ordering a limited lately?

 

I'm worried as well, the way incentives and interest rates were when I first started looking to now is pissing me off.

 

We have one on order for a customer that was submitted back on April 22 and factory still has not started production on it. We may not get it for this model year. I have not received allocation for 2022 models yet but the system is setup to start requesting them so i would expect in the next month or so only 2022 models will be production. This wont be a big deal for most since there are currently no incentives for tacoma's on the west coast so pricing should be about the same from 2021 to 2022

Took delivery June 22nd evening
1 month from locating to delivery. I got lucky.

The problem of course is that if you sell it, you probably won't find anything to replace it.

 

I get calls from real estate agents who want to buy my house. I ask them if I do can I move in with them?

That usually gets them to hang up.

 

I just bought my 2021 DCLB OR Premium at MSRP, now I have a 2000 Tacoma 2WD with 94,500 miles that's going up for sale. Perfect time for me to sell it.

 

I have a Limited Nightshade on it's way. Here's my timeline. I'm in the Gulf States Region by the way. The key is your dealer finding one on allocation that matches what you want. Might be tough since it's getting close to model year build out. Good luck to you with yours. Curious, what color did you order on the Nighthade?

4/12/21 Met with salesman to spec. truck.
4/13/21 Received notice that allocated truck was found.
6/18/21 Estimated date at GST processing center.
6/12/2021 Received permanent VIN
6/22/2021 Found a truck like I ordered at GST with inventory search. Since it's kind of a rare build I assume that it should be mine.
Assuming a couple days at GST, a few days in transit and for PDI, then it should be ready to pick up.

EDIT:6/23/21 Just got a text. It's in and ready to pick up.

 

Does that mean that there is a slim chance that I will be getting my 2021 Tacoma that I ordered May 14 or will they replace it with a 2022 or will I have to order a 2022 confused here.

 

Well it just happened my dealer just called to let me know that my new 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport Premium in Barcelona Red just arrived at the dealership this afternoon. I put in the order on May 14 and received it today May 23 man that was faster than expected. Anyways it will be ready for me to pick up Friday morning can't wait.

So, it sounds from some of the posts that dealers can call other dealers and basically ask to take their allocation. Is that correct? My dealer seems to be waiting on Toyota to give them an allocation. Does it happen both ways?

 

That’s the crux of the problem. If your dealer is allocated the truck by Toyota, your dealer has the right to it. If your dealer has to call another dealer and ask to take their allocation, they have no rights at all. Given the fact that all the dealers are looking for inventory to sell, why would a dealer give up a sure sale to another dealer unless it gets something equally desirable in trade? Looking to get a truck allocated to another dealer other than the one you have decided to purchase from is wishing on a star.
