Dissapointed with Weathertech...

So I have the digital fit liners, which I thought would help keep the carpet clean. Unfortunately I was wrong. Let me describe it to you: the liners have holes for the clips that attach mats to carpet; Unfortunately these holes are not sealed off, and after taking out my mat I noticing rings of red clay around the area where the holes are in the liner. I am afraid that these circles of mud ( now rubbed in by liners and dried) are gonna be harder to remove than if I didnt have the mat. i will try and get pics tom. Just wanted to warn you all, they are not total protection.

Yeah, you're right, youd've been much better off just putting your clay covered feet directly on the carpet and grinding it everywhere.

They're not perfect if you really use your truck. I was out in the snow/mud/streams for about 3.5 hours today, in and out of the truck repeatedly. Weathertechs don't catch EVERYTHING, but they make so I can actually clean my truck afterwards. Without them, it would be impossible to return it to like-new condition.

i think most people put a little epoxy or something along those lines over the holes to keep that from happening...downside is that it makes it more difficult to remove them later

I will try duck tape...if I don't use it all taping jandrews smart ass mouth shut yea so who cares you use the truck we all do mine is beat to shit I just hate spending 100 or more dollars on something that is not effective

Sure I did, didnt expect them to leak thought they were supposed keep water away from carpet. Straight from wethertech website:

Yea i do but I didn't know absolute protection was the new half ass. I guess the best solution is mats over the liners

 

I see what you are saying, after getting mine I wish I got them without holes and then clipped off the clips... Still so much better than carpet, mine constantly have puddles in them after being in the snow.

 

hmm, i dunno. in the salty slushy snowy conditions i've noticed that my feet don't go near the areas with the clip holes. the mess ends up staying in the middle of the mat. we've had a few snow storms and when i removed the mats for a cleaning after the last one, the area near the holes was clean.

sorry you are unhappy - i think they are probably the best option though.

edit: you know what, rubber caps would have been nice, come to think about it, even ones that are attached like that which goes on a sports bottle. you slide the clip in the hole, and then cap the hole off with a low profile cap. if you use this idea weathertech, i want royalties!

Getting back to serious discussion, do you actually have clips in the liners? Because they fill the hole significantly. Personally, I have more trouble with the half-coverage of the false pedal and debris sliding down behind it.

Regarding truly protective interiors, the only real solution there is removing the carpet inserts and bedlining the floor. Requires a fair amount of disassembly of the interior but is rather effective. Add waterproof seat covers and you can essentially hose-clean everything aside from the dash.


Regarding Huskies, they have no holes but don't fit as well - you'll just end up getting shit over the sides.

 

this is agree with. plus, i have a manual so i had to edit the mat a bit behind the clutch pedal, which exposes the carpet a little more than they designed it for.

 

Thanks yes I have clips and no they are not sealed. I have wet okoles and you are right bed liner is the real protection. What happened to the basic vinyl flooring that used to come in older trucks or the new fj. Tacoma needs the vinyl floor option that comes with fj

 

Truthfully?

Manufacturers realized they were selling tons of cars with carpet interior, and relatively, a lot fewer trucks.

From a bean-counter standpoint, it makes more sense to shut down your truck-vinyl-floor plant, save all that cash, and just add a little capacity at the carpet-interior plant to begin carpeting trucks.

1% of truck buyers who use their trucks will complain. The other 99% who DD a truck because they would be insecure about their manliness in a car don't even notice the difference. You can pick up drycleaning in a carpeted truck just as easily as a vinyl one.

But I agree with you. It's a shame, and if ToMoCo had offered some kind of rubber flooring option, I'd have paid them way too much for it off the lot.
