If someone is playing a flute on a track, I truly don't want to know who that is. But now a days, that same thing happens. The threshold is probably just a little bit higher. I'm not checking every artist on a song, but if it's a good song Iver never heard before, it's definitely getting some research.

I have a few cassette tapes that I kept. A Roots demo tape from when they opened for the Beastie Boys at the Kitsap County fairgrounds in 1995 and Licensed to Ill by the Beastie Boys. I have one tape deck in my garage and it just happens to be a double tape deck. It's great.

I use a USB stick in the truck or a streaming service.

I guess I am still not seeing why you can't put songs on your phone just because it's a company phone, that would have zero impact on the phone and could be easily erased (or moved via SD card) if you change phones or employers.

I guess you can get a good look at a t-bone by sticking your head up a bull's ass, but wouldn’t you rather take the butcher's word for it?

What are you talking about? I only do digital download/stream now and I can tell you who plays what on any song on my phone. A lot of people are like this also. I want convenience and have all my music at anytime I want. I go on vacation and my mood and taste in music changes so much, there is no way I can bring all my cds with.
If I want to know more, I just look it on line. I can find out way more about the album online then in any liner notes.
great line from that move.

I talked to them in person, when they went on break and came over to the bar. Some of them even crashed on the floor at the house. “Road tours” aren’t like you always see in tv/movies. Support your local music scene…

Am I the only member of the BMG mail order music club? I have 500 to 600 CDs. A lot are no longer avaialble for sale.

I have the CD somewhere, but haven't seen it since I ripped it to digital over 15 years ago.

I have that one too. I think it came in a black paper case instead of a plastic CD jewel case. Good times!

(It probably was also released in vinyl)

OP, I really couldn’t agree more. My 2021 TRDOR DCSB is the first vehicle that I have owned in over 30 years that does not have a CD player, and I feel about music exactly as you do. However, I do have an iPhone and by having ripped my entire collection of over 1000+ CDs to iTunes, I have about 12000 songs on my iPhone that are accessible through Apple CarPlay. The main complaint is that I cannot access them at will over 5MPH unless through playlists, which are too much trouble and not a spontaneous choice, or Siri which does not work without cell service (I drive a lot in the mountains.). However, I can put my phone on random play and experience everything that you enumerated in your post. A phone of your own, loaded with your music is the answer. Perhaps forward your work phone to your own phone when driving. A shame that so many don’t know what they are missing by using music subscription services rather than curating their own music collection.

I also read the liner notes, lyrics and recording stats. Great stuff when at home.

what does this even mean? can you not curate a digital library? sure, spotify et al might not have some artists or albums but you can get them elsewhere.
