We've got manuals in 2021. Does that not already make us curmudgeons?

Aw, I started sounding like my dad about 15yrs or 20yrs ago.

My goal is to jump over the 4th Gen and enjoy mine until the 5th Gen EV drops.

This is exactly my goal. Maybe not as specific as the 5th gen, but I suspect this will be my last MT/Gasoline pickup. The next one will be either EV or Hydrogen, I suspect.

But in the meantime, man oh man, I do enjoy driving the MT Tacoma. Especially after defeating that lame accumulator.

Honestly it's best to avoid clutch start cancel unless it's really needed. I can't imagine it's easy on the starter. Not that I'm saying never, ever use it(really steep rocks where you'll be utterly fucked if you roll back even an inch? Use it).

Just, there's usually better ways. I'm pretty good at heel-toe and that solves this issue completely. Instead of needing to fuss with the handbrake you just pull the clutch up to the friction point and roll off the brake as you roll onto the gas. In low range especially I don't even roll back a little.

Yeah. I'm just assuming that the next gen will not support a full EV as well as a separate platform would. There are a lot of things that I like about the current crop of EVs. I think the next gen will be a lot better, Toyota will knock it out of the park when they enter the fray, and a true mid size 4wd would be a lot of fun.

Awesome! Same here. The Taco is definitely my favorite 4wheeled vehicle that I have owned.

I still don't get the rationale for the accumulator in the first place, esp as the 2.7l MTs didn't have it.

I think the 2.7l MTs are the real unicorns, esp finding one these days.

True, I suppose it wasn't necessary since I wasn't in danger of rolling back into anything or off of a cliff...

I just realized it was an option I didn't consider at the time since I don't spend a lot of time on terrain that steep and in 4Lo.

TBH I spend a lot of time in steep and 4Lo and besides one or two real sketchy situations the only time I regularly use the clutch start cancel is to start heating up the truck while I take my ski boots off (after making sure it's in neutral of course) because I can't get all the way onto the clutch with them on.

Only for 2016 and 2017. There is a thread around here where a guy was able to pull all the new Tacos for sale. The 2.7l and 3.5l MT builds are very small currently. The 2.7l MT was probably half of that.

Does that mean it will hold its value better or because more people want automatics now it will take a hit?

It's a Taco. The values are just great in general.

Beyond that, there's a lot of speculation about AT versus MT resale. We definitely spent less up front as the AT is a fixed $1,700 option. Some folks say that MTs get snapped up. Others say that ATs are easy to sell.

All that I really know, in general, is that MT folks usually hang on to them much longer.

    So. Many. Stickers.
    So.... A Maverick? o_O

Should have gotten a Sport. Hill start assist ftw

    A rare bird indeed

Should have got a sport

2016-2017 was it. Rare. I wanted one. Dealership refused to get one when they were taking back the POS Sheep they sold me

The MT is the reason my truck didn't sell on black Friday and thus I was able to snag it up at black Friday price several weeks later.

You might have just needed some better velcro gloves! :D

    Interesting.

I have not run into many MTs around here, but it seems that they don't sit long?

That said, mine has a June build date that I bought in September. Maybe 60days on the lot?

According to my dealership, MT's are snatched up instantly. More demand than supply. At least for now. So maybe not more valuable, but easier to sell.

Oh, the places that I have been. The puckers that I have felt. Hahaha!

That is more or less my gut feel in general?

Yeah, though. I don't see the MT as a reason to jack the price.

True there. If there is not a for sale sign in the window, the price would be purely speculative and large.
