Here’s a couple of photos it would probably help a lot to seal the tailgate

Just spent a long weekend in the high desert central Oregon... Road trip home to WA and the dust was gone between the highway speeds and the rain

It’s not water proof but it does keep your gear way drier and cleaner than if you didn’t have it. I’m in AZ so dust is a bigger concern than rain. I don’t think we have had a good rain storm since I’ve had it so can’t really speak to how well it holds up in a storm. If you’re trying to keep things really clean and have the extra space, you have to go to a hard topper and seal everything up like you did with your cover.

Appreciate your input. I just watched the instal video and now have a better understanding of these vinyl top limitations in terms of weather sealing the bed.

Reason I'm looking in to a canopy vs the tonneau cover I have now is we're looking at relocating from HI to AZ. We're going to be road tripping via WA & CA to AZ (over maybe 7 weeks or so) and will have a fair amount of luggage so to speak, hence the extra room of the canopy. I'm thinking parcel wrapping everything in the bed in a tarp and with the soft topper I'd be good to go. I don't want to go with a hard top cause of weigh

I've seen a couple of soft top's driving around over here so I'll wait to see if I can see one in person to try and work out which brand looks better to me.

@Maxx are you originally from AZ or did you relocate there?

The weight is worth it IMO. I’ve had both and nothing beats a sealed hard topper for speed of access and security. They are pricey but you’ll wonder how you lived without it once you have one. I constantly worry about parking my truck full of gear and just the softopper hiding stuff. I lock the tailgate but that doesn’t do much if someone really wants some stuff…and the dust. I’m sick of the dust.

AZ born and raised, 3rd generation.:tumbleweed:

Planning to relocate in a year or 2 though. This place has too many people now and it’s getting hotter every year. Just hit 126 at my house today in downtown Phoenix.

Lol I hear ya. The wife wants to try AZ but I'd be happy driving through and going back to CO, I really enjoyed mountain life. And that is way too hot.

Sorry AZ has gotten too busy for ya, crazy times, people moving from A to B all across the country. Here in HI it's easy to spot the newbies with the out of state plates, there's lots of them too!

The canopy is a temporary deal so no need for the hard shell.

woof - i left texas 8 years ago and could never go back as much as i love it. wayyyyy tooo many people. Oklahoma is OK! people think its like a giant shit hole here, sure theyre places like wynnewood with tiger king, but OKC and tulsa are both very normal midsized cities. buttttt for anyone thinking to move here dont because its not over crowded and i like my 10 min drive to work.

The frame inside the extension is literally just an AMP Bed Extender. Honestly, if I were to build it again (which I'm going to, just need to get another few yards of the fabric..) I wouldn't have an internal frame and would instead do a straight shot from the edge of the tail up to the cross member at the bottom of the softopper. The bed extender isn't something I typically keep in my truck full time, and I just wanted the extra few inches with the tailgate down so my 6'1" self could stretch my legs out.

Removing the frame makes it faster setup/takedown without really sacrificing anything, and I might be able to origami the folds so the thing can stay installed and just "pops up" when I drop the tail.
