When Dr says too early to tell it makes me wonder if they ever really know. Coworker got bit by something on his forehead. Don't believe it ever swell up that big a area, but the flesh around the bite got extremely infected area about the size of a nickel. I guess the dr then treated as a BR bite and it cleared up went away but scar remained.

My dad got bit about 35 years ago, probably a BR, he has an Eisenhower dollar sized scar on his stomach where it necrotized a bit, he was treating it every day. Not something to ignore

Did you actually see the spider? My brother’s doctor in Maryland diagnosed his arm as being bitten by a brown recluse, although they don’t exist in Maryland. It turned out to be MRSA.

There is no standard recommended treatment for a brown recluse bite, most doctors will give an antibiotic and say “Wait and see what happens.” For many people it’s like a mosquito bite, the long-term necrosis is not all that common.

Bro we have those fuckers everywhere here. The few times I’ve seen them I stomp them out and leave the bodies out so the rest know not to fuck with me.

    Hope you’re doing ok!

I've seen a couple of people who were bitten by them, the biggest recommendation I can make is stay on top of it! Since you say it's swelling has your doctor put you on antibiotics? If it gets hot/gets a head on it/starts getting red streaks/etc your doctor probably needs to clean it and put you on antibiotics- especially if you start getting streaking do not put it off. There are plenty of gross pictures online so you can see what to watch for. If it's actually a brown recluse and if it gets nasty you'll need to clean it early and often to try get any necrotic tissue and even then there's a good chance it's going to spread. Depending on how much venom you got and your body's reaction you may just get a pimple or you could get a nasty gaping hole that requires extensive treatment including skin grafts.
Good luck, they can be really difficult wounds to deal with.

Yup, same thing happened to a friend. That shit is bad news, she had a quarter sized hole in her leg for like 3 months while it healed.

I live in the woods and they are everywhere here in AR. There's probably no way I haven't been bitten by one at this point after 21 years out here. I've never had a reaction to the spider bites I've had here. As @Tallgrass05 said many MRSA infections are misdiagnosed as recluse bites.

Here's one I stepped over in flip flops in the garage. Brain said "granddaddy longlegs" as I stepped over then realized it wasn't. This is an insanely large recluse BTW

Years ago, a guy I worked with moonlighted as a general gopher type mr. fixit at the local hospital. He was breaking down cardboard boxes from supplies shipped from S.C. and stuffing them in the compactor. About two months and several surgeries later…

I got bit as a kid on the calf, 4 weeks to heal. The bite got big and bad then pitted in the middle, but no infection, no necrotizing (or not enough to require addressing). I was on anti histamines and antibiotics for a month. Still have the scar but is only about 3 or 4mm across. I got lucky, those things are everywhere in Kansas. I killed 3 in my garage this weekend, and one at work.

I’m constantly telling students at our warehouse not to shove their bare hands into places they can’t see, and never leave shoes or boots out there. So far, no issues.

Hope you didn’t get hit with the BR bite, keep an eye on the center and for the love of all things don’t scratch it. Often scratching or picking leads to secondary infection.
