Rust on Frame with A/C drain mod fix

From your picture, I would just run it downwards towards the left side of the frame , opposite of exhaust/cat, zip tie it, and call it a day.

 

Tacoman47 I tie-wrapped mine around the frame instead of sticking the drain tube through that hole. Don't know if that helps you any.

 

Thanks for replies. I decided to zip tie mine in 2 spots and not go through the hole because every time I tried it just forced it to rub the exhaust. I zip tied it once below the “coil” bracket behind the cover on passenger side where it screws to the frame and the 2nd zip tie went through the hole as mentioned earlier, just the drain hose itself is on the outside in front of it.

I’m happy how it turned out, it’s pretty much straight downward slope, no unnecessary bends or curves to prevent it draining.

 

Do I have to remove the wheel to do this or can it be done from the top ?

 

I did mine this weekend, didn’t remove the wheel. Just pull off the splash guard buttons, popped the hood and it was pretty easy.

 

So you did it from above and then ran the hose down ? How about running the hose so that the exhaust doesn’t burn the hose ?

 

Above, through the wheel well and laid underneath. I found it easier to slide the hose on from above and tighten the hose clamp. Then went through the wheel well to zip tie to the bracket, which keeps it off the exhaust. Laid underneath to feed the hose through the frame and zip tied there too. Zip tied it here to keep away from exhaust.

 

Ran it through the frame and out here. Zip tied there and done. Checked it after a 40 mile drive home from work and hose wasn’t even hot, and ac was draining.

 

No reason to pop the hood. Just turn the wheel to the left first to free up some space. Pop the three rivets holding the guard. The hose is on the upper left. Attach the larger hose over the factory drain. Tighten the stainless steel clamp about half way. (Mine fell down a few times because I was afraid of over tightening.). Check the clamp before you leave. Some stated a size that was too small. You can check the hose against the clamp on the back of the clamp packaging. I think you will need at least a 7/8. I tie wrapped the hose to the tire rod by the wheel. I didn’t pass the hose through that hole. I tie wrapped it to the left on the outside of the tie rod. I actually used that hole to pass the tie wraps around. Put the flap back down and push the rivets back in. Check a few times to make sure water is dripping from that spot. After that, don’t even worry about it.

FYI I got my parts from O’reilys,..if that helps any.

 

do you have pictures of the plastics that I have to remove in order to get to it. I thought I had to open the hood and get it from the top. Is there anything covering that ac line or is it uncovered ? Sorry for all these questions I order the truck it should be here in a few weeks but that is the first mid I’d like to do. Since I don’t have the truck with me I don’t have a clue what I have to remove or how is it done

 

Refer the the very first post in this thread and look at the third picture. Once you actually do this mod, it will make sense. All you gonna see is a drain tube coming out. If you don’t have a trim tool try a very large fork to help remove the plastic rivets. I used a modified Joe’s Crab Shack peeler to do the job. You could also YouTube search this and you can clearly see step by step.

 

Being new, the buttons should just pop out, I used a flat blade screwdriver . Take a look at the original post, it’ll make more sense once you get the truck and open the hood. I got the supplies from Advance Auto for $6.

Just spray the frame down with crc or cosmoline, and forget the drain mod.

Just finished, should have done it first thing. Ran the line along the top of the frame and out above the mudflap.

 

My 21 doesn’t have a metal spout, just a flexible hose but the 5/8 went right over it.

 

I even cut a speed notch cause I know you guys always complain these trucks are too slow

 

Just to confirm something...The 5/8 inner diameter hose will fit over the current hose?

Also, I have water draining but every time I turn the A/C off Or start the truck a few mins later the air coming out the of vents smells bad! I got 17K miles on this and really perplexed how a brand new truck can already have this issue
