Just brainstorming. Since most of the frame is hollow steel construction, moisture doesn't have many exits. Any ideas on size and number of holes to drill without sacrificing structural integrity?

There are multiple OEM drain holes in the frame. Part of the Toyota rust abatement program is to plug them.

Yes, on the 2nd gen frames the side holes get plugs not the drain holes.
1st gen BOX sections have 2 tiny bottom drains.

Best way to prevent new frame rust is to have it coated in an OIL based under coating. Don't do any rubber based coatings, all those do is trap water

I have always thought about this too. Not so much for additional drain but more so for additional airflow to dry out the inside.

Have you looked at the frame? The number of holes you'd have to drill in goofy places, followed by painting them and hoping they don't get clogged with stuff....yeaaah.

Everyone wants a magic bullet. There isn't one. Keep it clean, keep it coated in something oily, and it'll last longer.

I use 1/2" holes and a Cool set up to use My Mag Drill.

Depending I use 4 to 6 holes per side it allows a real good flushing out of the frame.

It would be a Royal pain to drill them by hand

There are existing drain holes. I widened mine to 3/4" with a step drill. These are located at the bends in the frame where water would naturally collect.
