Stock wiring does a great job of reducing voltage and amperage to the bulb! haha Outside of that, you "could" decrease voltage in a few different ways. But at the consequence of brightness of course. I don't think it's been tried, but it is absolutely possible.

Something like this could be used, but you'd have to use one per headlight.

What I don’t have are optimal dimensions. Relay to battery, relay to driver light and either driver light to passenger light or relay to passenger light.

Now it’d be super cool if we could use H9 connectors at the bulb end but I assume those won’t fit and you wouldn’t want to give up high beams if they did. So it’ll only be sealed at the relays.

I can also take an existing harness and redo just the relay portion if the lengths are all good to go. But as of today I gave 14 gauge inline fuses and ring terminals.

I don’t have 12 gauge but that seems like overkill to me. Not sure what other harnesses are using.

 

My headlight solutions has a mix of 12 and 10 gauge. There’s 0 rush for anything. It’s working just fine right now! But this harness will end up in one of the tacomas when I or someone gets around to making a nicely fit harness for the tundra. I’ve still gotta get my switch pro and all those goodies ready for lighting and a compressor eventually.

 

Geez 10 gauge is a bit nuts.

Hit me with some numbers and I’ll schedule yours for next week. I think I can even use 12 gauge if I can source the terminals.

 

Yea it’s a super beefy harness for sure. Just wish they used a nice sealed relay box. (Minor thing though)

I need to wire up the switch pro and if I can integrate the horn harness I have into the headlight harness with a 3rd relay. (30 amp draw from the caddy horns) I just hate rats nests of wiring

 

I can do 12 gauge with the sealed relays but that’s as big as it goes. You ok with that? I certainly am.

I can do a 3rd relay for horns too. How long of a trigger wire? Positive or negative?

 

Trigger wire I need to measure. They’re 2 wire horns so it needs ground and postive honestly I can wire the horn side fairly quick here since I have the proper connectors. It’s just eh headlight stuff that I haven’t really massed the parts for

 

I'm thinking 24 position GEP could be nice. The mini relays are rated at 20amps which seems like it'd be adequate for this and a 24 would have enough room for 3 relays and 3 fuses. The only issue there is that the 24 position GEP is backordered.

The full size relays at 30 amps can work if I figure out a plan for the fuses which doesn't look super ugly.

 

Hmm. The 24 is STILL back ordered? That’s the one I was looking at getting for the horns and lights. But they’ve been back ordered for a while

Where in the 500 page opus. ( Great detail) can read simply what replacement bulb do I need, what's the cost, will they fit a 2015 tacoma and require no Voltage meter and no other light housing parts ? other wise, greaT DETAIL, a tiny bit more than I NEEDED.

Note that those bulbs require the harness to be used. Otherwise you'll want to use a performance stock wattage bulb like the Philips Racing Vision +200s.

I want to add to the bulb life debate. I am not sure that everyone understands how a halogen bulb functions. Halogen bulbs need proper voltage and heat to last. It part of the design.

From How Stuff Works:
A halogen lamp also uses a tungsten filament, but it is encased inside a much smaller quartz envelope. Because the envelope is so close to the filament, it would melt if it were made from glass. The gas inside the envelope is also different -- it consists of a gas from the halogen group. These gases have a very interesting property: They combine with tungsten vapor. If the temperature is high enough, the halogen gas will combine with tungsten atoms as they evaporate and redeposit them on the filament. This recycling process lets the filament last a lot longer. In addition, it is now possible to run the filament hotter, meaning you get more light per unit of energy. You still get a lot of heat, though; and because the quartz envelope is so close to the filament, it is extremely hot compared to a normal light bulb.

Yes! There is also the new Osram Laser +200 but I haven’t had a chance to compare them. Note that Amazon often does a poor job of bulb packaging, little to no padding in an often oversized box.
