    Partially because I like the look of more tire to wheel both aesthetically and for off road conditions. Second because tires are significantly cheaper on 16's vs 17's I found out after already buying the wheels :annoyed:

    Going for the REALLY retro look. 70's repro decals and a neat surprise. TRD Sports need 17" spare tires. Toyota designed the 17" spare to look like the steelies from 60s/70s Toyota Pickups and FJ40. Powder coated white, now I just need to buy some black acorn lugs.

    I agree with you @jkish17. But there are far more choices for 17" wheels, especially for C load rated tires. Which is ultimately why I chose to go with 17s. It's a compromise, but one I can live with.

    2” lift. FJ Cruiser spare 17” wheels wrapped in BFG Mud Terrains.
    I was looking for a set of 16” steelies, but couldn’t pass up these 17’s when I found them. I was a little nervous about the look of 17’s on a small 1st Gen but I thought they turned out pretty decent.

    Ya I finally gave up on trying to find a set of C or D rated tires that I liked and finally got E rated geolandars. So stiff and heavy, biggest con for sure.

    I'm running on E rated Geolandars as well, GO15s. Only had them for a week now, but I like the on road manners. Heading to Colorado in a couple weeks to break them in. I'm sure they will do better than the stock GY Wranglers.

    That bronze is really going to pop against the black.

    Went with a similar color! I just did them quick and simple...cleaned...scuffed...cleaned...primer only where needed and painted with Rustoleum.     FYI- powdercoating took these from 27.1 lbs to 27.6 lbs on my bathroom scale. These are the 16” spares for a 1st gen Tacoma/Tundra still available from Toyota, now with the double oval holes.
