I’m thinking about purchasing the replica TRD PRO grille that comes in matte black. At the moment, I’d rather not have it color match painted. My thought is, if nothing is done to it and it’s installed, will it show west or fade easily?

I don’t know if anyone has done anything to the grill before installing, such as some sort of spray sealant or protection. Clear coat or another coat of matte rattle can? Any help or insight would be great. Thanks!

I believe it's just ABS plastic, so I can't imagine it fading anytime soon.

usually when people buy the trd pro grill, it comes just as the insert. the color or chrome piece is reused from what you have.

when you look at your grill, the middle piece is what is different. the outside piece is either chrome or color painted. you usually reuse your old chrome or color coated piece.

and the middle piece is matte black and does not need to be painted. its matt black and will last just fine.

Go for it. Best cosmetic purchase I've made. Love the old school "Toyota" letter grilles and the fact china replicated one for $100 was perfect. Had it on for about 2 years with no fade or issues. I do spray it with some 303 after each wash though.

This is my stock grille with the bezel off. Be careful as the clips are kinda fragile. Your TRD grille will come like this too.

Most definitely. And haven't noticed any fade or scratches.

OP has a 2009, so he might be referring to one of the aftermarket ones such as one found on eBay?

Op, if you check out the one I have, its two separate pieces and you won’t be able to reuse the outer part that is chrome or color matched.
The mounting holes aren’t even close.

being able to separate them though does make it easier to spray on some color or clear coat.

Oh whoops. Yep I forgot the 05-11s are different than the 12-15. Still I believe the supplier that makes them is the same and OP shouldnt have any fade issues for a long time.

I have the same one. Also same experience: it has held up well after 1.5 years on the truck. No fading, sits in sun a lot too. I was thinking of adding one of the TRD badges to the bottom right corner but I also like how it looks now. Also considered painting the letters to match but I like the grey color they are too.

Anyway I recommend the grill for anyone on the fence.
