I am pretty sure they hit you with a day use fee to pass through the NMW. They cant/wont charge you to camp in the Public Land.

I thought the ones at Coffeelos were in the NMW, while the ones just below along Telos Lake were the public ones? Either way Ive never actually been to Coffeelos, thought its always been on my map as a backup.

Ill be headed up there on Friday. When are you headed up?

I think you are correct. Gazetteer made them look like they were in the Preserve. NMW map show's them as NMW sites. Heading up Saturday morning. I have through Tuesday off from work. Where might you be?

little upgrade... 285/70/17 32.7" (i call them 33's) E-load General Grabber AT-X had to do some CMC trimming, and cut back the front fender liners...

definitly need to seek re-gearing the axles... at least 4.88 gears... they do run a LOT quieter, and smoother than the duratracs..

I am heading up to the North Maine Woods next week for some camping and exploring.

I am looking for recommendations for good campsites. Anything on the water or has a great view would be excellent. If we can swim there and the site can be reserved, even better! We do not have any specific area up there in mind. We are just looking to check out somewhere new to us.

    Thanks guys!

I recommend the airstrip just a few miles west of the clayton lake. its got nice shaded campsites 2 outhouses, and a short walk down to the river. or are you looking further south? east? west? theres a lot of ground to cover, and a lot of great sites..

Chase Lake has nice water-front sites. I was there last weekend.

There certainly is a lot of area up there. We are probably thinking just north of Moosehead, southern half. But we are open to go up further if the site is worth it. We plan to go through Greenville to enter.

I appreciate the feedback! Sorry to be vague but we are very flexible.

    Thank you!

Nice pic! Nice rig too! That looks like a good spot! We will have to see how availability is.

Who owned & who will own this truck? Good looking one, imo. Though, spend all that money on bumpers, winch, racks, etc. only to throw blocks on the rear?!

only problem with wadleigh is it is right on the main road..

accessing these from 20mile checkpoint is not a huge distance....

southwest end theres Dole Brook, Snake, I stayed at Dole Pond/long pond and they have a nice view right on the water,

Russell stream just southeast of 490/golden rd intersection is a nice spot for 1-3 rigs and is right off the golden rd.

north of this up 490 rd is the st john bridge campsite, nice little stream, newer outhouse.. but again right off the main road..

north of that is baker lake, nice spot, about 4 campsites 2 outhouses, and ranger station house across the bridge.. plenty of space, and a boat ramp.

east of that is turner pond, and st francis lake sites...

I do recommend that you carry a gazeteer, and get offline maps for google & gaiagps. I also recommend downlaoding the NMW wall map from northmainewoods.org.. its a PDF and only 7MB... has all the campstes and is zoomable..

spencer bay is good spot if your not too familiar or want to venture to far out. And it’s on Moosehead, but first come first serve.
