I got the v6 as its listed MPG is almost exactly the same as the 4 cylinder so it make sense to have more power for a truck with a bed and tow hook. There was no benefit for getting the i4 over the v6.

some claim that the I4 has more longevity than the V6
the ease of changing spark plugs (there exist some dealerships and autoshops that cheat and get lazy when it comes to V6 and only change 3 and never bother to do the work to change the other 3 that are hard to get to)
I4 uses spin-on oil filter, to some it's a plus
I4 is NOT dual injection, does not have high pressure fuel injector, less problem down the road.

Yes, 252hp and for a fully equipped 4 door EX-L sedan does quite well, 0-60 in 7.6 sec per specs, just a little slower than the sport model. All the while rated at 23 city / 34 highway. And the 10 speed trans shifts smooth as silk. Don’t care much for the CVTs so we avoided that.

All of the above. I love having the spin on filter keep your plastic crap lol. And add price. And add NO Atkinson cycle diet. And add the 4.30 rear end instead of the 3.91 the V6 automatic has. :D

Interestingly enough half the folks here who complain about performance, whether 4 cylinder or V6 never use that little button which significantly improves the transmission shift points at low to moderate speeds. As an experiment I used it on a long trip with mostly interstate driving, a lot at 75mph, and got the best milage I’ve ever gotten by a few tenths. I had cruise control on but shifted from Drive to S mode to stop gear hunting on grades at times. Best drive ever doing it that way. Cruise control can waste gas when it accelerates hard getting back up to the setting on a grade but using S mode even in cruise helps prevent that.

My previous truck was a 2.2 l with 120 hp and it carried and towed everything I wanted with no complaints. The 2.7 l Taco was a worthy replacement. Never once regretted not having the v6.

just bought a 4cyl with utility package(no rear seats) for $26k. The truck is used around my nursery and for short trips. S mode makes it tolerable. 6 Cyl would have cost $4k more(no utility option). I could easily afford that, but not worth it IMO, rather invest it.

The only valid reason for the 4 banger is the lower cost up front IMO.

I test drove the 2020 4 cylinder tacoma. First thing that came to mind ...what was toyota thinking putting a 4 banger in these gen3 trucks?...it was way underpowered, and reminded me of those 22r 4x4 pickups back in the day. The 3.5 v6 was much better. Having one for over a year now is working out well.

My 2.7 is far from lagging and happy with performance and MPG but it is a 5 speed manual. Nobody should buy any Tacoma 4 or 6 cylinder for performance anyway as it is a light duty truck not a sports car. Why did you buy it in the first place if you wanted speed?

AT: I use 'S' mode most of the time and only use 'D' for flat long stretches where I got CC on. If you dictate to the transmission what gear it is limited to I think the truck is perfectly fine. It goes 90+ on the freeway no problem if you need to scoot along at that rate, and we live in the mountains where roads go from sea level to about 5,000 feet and I haven't felt it was lacking going up significant inclines if I limit the transmission to '3' or '4' max. It could be better, sure; but it's fine for my needs and meets my expectations.

I actually had a MT 2017 SR and while I love a manual, my biggest issue with that was if you were in '5' with CC on, even a slight hill would cause the CC to disengage at basically the wort possible time. I had to kind of preplan my long hill ascents to have momentum and be in the correct gear. The AT lets me be a little more lazy and less attentive... the truck will downshift to maintain speed so CC never shuts down 7 feet from the crest of a hill...

Was offered almost $3,000 more than I paid for my 2019 4 cylinder but I just cannot bear to let her go. :)

Probably smart especially if you have a heavier truck. I really only used S mode playing around until I read someone on TW who posted about using it on grades etc now I use it often. On the interstate with no grade I take it to 6th or drive for the slight mileage gain. Any grade and I go to S mode 5 or 4 if needed for a steep grade.

I’m at around 7200 miles lol. Making a few 600+ mile round trips lately so that’s gonna change soon.
