I actually work on this site. There will be 6 fab buildings total. They want to have the first 2 fabs operational by 2024 from what I am told. That is just the 1st phase of three. The whole facility could take up to 10 years to complete, this job site is HUGE!!

Yeah, agreed. I just thought it was funny the dealership put out these obvious fleet vehicles while they were waiting to be picked up so it LOOKED like they actually had inventory. There were two other Tacos on the lot, but both were already sold.

This is what people don't understand. "Just make them here" they say like you can start pumping out chips next day.

They don't understand the finances, the size, and the challenges of building a facility for chip manufacturing.

Friend of mine is a facilities guy at a Hyuandi plant and he said they have something like 11,000 cars/suvs built but waiting on computer parts or trim pieces. They went ahead and built them and are storing them all over the factory property. Some have been waiting more than 8 months

I wonder how many of these factory vehicles will be rebranded as 2022’s before they hit the dealer lots.

If you had a drive in any of 6 or 7 counties surrounding where they are manufactured in Louisville, KY, and knowing their line is actually shut down for the next several weeks, this story is a common one. They have plenty manufactured, and can't sell any of them. They have run out of room (not on the dealer lots obviously).

Thousands of new Ford pickups parked at Kentucky Speedway, can't be sold (wcpo.com)

The time to get a new Tacoma may be when the lots are flooded with them when last necessary parts go on.

Their website has actual stock numbers on five Tacomas (with markups over MSRP), one Tundra, zero 4Runners.

Toyota of North Charlotte had 7 new 2021 Tacomas on the lot last Friday, all 2WD SR and SR5 DCSB all posted at MSRP not charging any “market adjustments” .

I think this is the case with a lot of industry. Many people are buying new toys, RVs, boats, etc. all at record sales. Lots of folks with extra money out there.

Also, Toyota was not affected by the chip shortage...article is a month old but I'm sure still applies.

    https://www.reuters.com/business/au...ng-profit-nearly-doubles-year-ago-2021-05-12/

"Japan's top automaker, which has been stockpiling the semiconductors that are used in everything from engine maintenance to car safety and entertainment systems, said on Wednesday it is not seeing any major short term impact from the shortage which has been baked into its forecasts.

Toyota also announced a $2.3 billion share buyback, a one-to-five stock split and set bigger targets for electric vehicles (EVs) production.

The upbeat forecast for the full fiscal year reinforces Toyota's robust growth momentum that saw its March-quarter profit almost doubling and deepens a performance divergence with its rivals, who are battling billions of dollars of lost revenue due to the chip shortage."

Yes lots of people are buying boats, RVs, Teslas and motorcycles. Plenty of those RVs are built on truck chassis Ford, GM, International, Freightliner, MBZ, and who ever else supplies chassis for the RV market. All of which need semiconductors to complete the chassis before the RV can be built.

Might have been true at some point regarding Toyota and the chip shortage, doesn’t appear to be true now. Dealer says he’s not getting near as many.

This one still doesn't sit right with me. And if the people of AZ had any damn sense they'd be fighting to keep the fabs out of the state. What is a fabs biggest environmental impact? They require MASSIVE amounts of water. And what isn't in abundance in the desert? There's going to be lots of wells running dry.

Always good to do a 30 second search before making a comment where you're just guessing. 30 seconds of searching gives:

""Water has never been a huge cost in semiconductor manufacturing. It maybe costs a couple of cents per wafer, but it's not
a really big cost, so it's never really been a focus," he added.
Semiconductor makers have also learned ways to use water more efficiently over the years. Today, Intel recycles more than
9 million gallons (34 million liters) of water each day in its Arizona facility. The company said it will achieve net positive
water use -- defined as returning and restoring more fresh water than it consumes -- by 2030."

Freeman is Santa Rosa? I recently contacted Mr Coffaney (internet sales manager). All of these trucks are pre-sold or spoken for. What you see on the lot are the trucks waiting to be picked up by their new owners, at least that's what I've been told.

Well, what you don't know about AZ is that our water supply is actually fine atm. SRP (water and dams along the salt river that feeds phoenix valley) keep our water supply in check pretty good. The biggest hit on our water supply in this state is agriculture and that is actually dwindling due to urban sprawl. Something else you might not know about AZ is that we're slowly being overrun by California and they have majority of the water rights to the Colorado river. We're not as bad off as misinformed media might have people believe but thats not to say you aren't right about requiring massive amounts of water for the FABS, i would be curious to see how much water they require in comparison to agriculture, it might actually balance out.
