I was up there while they were doing the bridges and stuff. Glad thats over.
And I was up there last year and it seemed like the road was really washboarded, much better this year. But last year was one of my first trips with the camper so maybe I'm just more comfortable driving it now vs a year ago!

@Kyitty and I went all the way up in.... 17? was a bit different than the Homer Meet in 12. Good times! @HomerTaco

I went up in 2018 summer. And even now it's way different. Without a locker was a struggle in a spot. But otherwise was fine. The creek washing out the road is going to be a big issue though in the next couple of years.

I remember there was collapsed culvert not far past the trailhead - is that what you're referring to? Or above the treeline, there was a deep rut/ditch dug into one side of the trail for a good portion of the alpine area?

culvert section is repaired new trail around that spot.

Spot Im talking about is just passed the Y from Independence/Blue Lake to the left(where I went) or Right to Boulder Pass(only goes like 1/2 mile before wilderness is hit)

A bit up the hill climb on the switch backs the creed has run over the road pretty baddy eating away the road itself.

Two spots with large rocks are tricky. 2nd photo shows one in the fore ground. It sticks up quite high. First photo there is a large boulder in the middle, i tagged my transfer case on it coming down. Going over it was not easy with no lockers. Didn't help my tires are shit...but its still not great.

If the creek isn't solve and this gets more and more rutted down then it'll be impassible.

    Ah.

Yeah no. We did drive that as it had always been gated off every other time I was there by the guy that runs the outfitters camp right down before the turn. It was only 1/2ish mile long, nice drive and two large camp areas. But the wilderness boundary is like right there.

We went left(or up on that photo) up the mountain to Blue Lake. The wash up is on the first main straight about half way.

Gotcha. That's where I got stuck at the HomerMeet... too many loose rocks and not enough momentum. But it never looked like your pics! That's new for sure. Good to know, and to warn anyone asking in the future.

nah were you got stuck is further up. That spot is also much much worse haha But I didn't take photos of it. I did a pivot on the sliders going up and coming down just flexed the hell out of it going over the apex of the S.

Good thing I asked, we'd have gotten there and been super bummed. Do you know if that applies on the Wyoming side? The other spot we were looking was Sawtooth Lake on 120. The road is in the highlighted area. Screenshot 2021-06-28 080232.jpg

Yes it does. As well as Morrison just east of there.

You can however still drive lulu and daisy pass. Maybe, could be closed due to snow. Still good sized drifts up there but stuff has melted pretty good. Would still be worth checking. The Lulu side is smoother so you wouldn't have to air down to check it out. Plus goes right by the goose gate and sheep mountain gate. You'll see if it's open or not. I've been there one time before the 15th, but it was July 11th so pretty close to the 15th. However sawtooth was still closed.

All depends on the snow melt really.

MVUM are a good resource, not every FS division have them available (or at least easy to find) online. All open/closed dates are shown as well as what vehicles are legal to take on the trails
Sawtooth lake should be open, snow conditions dependant. Morrison is closed until 7/16
    https://www.fs.usda.gov/detailfull/shoshone/maps-pubs/?cid=stelprdb5352743&width=full

And according to the MVUM Goose is open 6/16 snow dependant
    https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/custergallatin/maps-pubs/?cid=fseprd557674

still worth a call to the FS offices to double check before you head out. And again, lots of closures due to the fires so you need to factor that in as well.
