I think mine was a result of the truck's low mileage when I got it. I don't know if it's true but I've heard that AC systems work better when used regularly and with 24k miles on the truck in 2016, I'm sure the AC sat unused for long periods of time. It didn't work that well from the day I bought it.

Hell the corolla had 700k before the a/c clutch died. It had never been charged till that point. Threw a new clutch on it. Recharged it. It kept going. Even after the accident that bent the lines, the a/c still blew ice cold

    regular use does indeed help

You say things like, "It's not that bad with, especially windows down," and, "I'm going to order the parts and knock it out myself then get the system recharged."
Even when you fog the cab up because of humidity and pouring rain and you had to roll your windows up.
Or when you get outta the car wet from sweat.
Or when you buy waterproof seat covers.
Then you hit the ceiling of excuses and call the shop.

Yeah my ceiling was after our daughter was born...she doesn't ride in the truck often but I'm definitely not going to subject her to a desert summer in a vehicle with no AC.

I don't mind abusing myself that way, I am a recovering catholic after all. But I won't do that to her

I definitely understand that. I feel bad enough when I have regular passengers, def wouldn't do that to a kid.

I perfected the art of self-flagellation/abuse years ago, these days I try more to reverse that lol.

The one on the Tacoma would have most likely survived if the previous owner hadn't discharged the system and refilled it without oil. The compressor was dry as a bone and locked up when I got it.

Oh well, if it wasn't a screwed-up mess, I wouldn't have bought it and restored it.

I saw one of those the other day around here, on a classic car of some sort. I remembered what it was because you guys were talking about those coolers on this thread awhile back. If I hadn't known I wouldn't have had any clue wtf that thing was.

I wish my mom was that nice

The ac went out on her BLACK land cruiser with no tint she wouldn't let us roll down the windows because the thought of looking too poor to fix the ac was too much for her to handle

I remember thinking as a kid how backwards her thinking was the moment I stepped out where ever we were going one time realizing it was like stepping into an A/C room when in reality I was standing in a parking lot sweaty in the sun vs in her truck with broken ac

My mom likes to tell the story about how her family's car had a rusted out floor board in the back when she and her sisters were kids. They would have to keep their feet up on the seats while driving around town.

But one generation's struggles doesn't (or shouldn't) become a requirement to impart them onto the next.
