I just gave this whole thing a second thought and I believe this is quite a testimonial to first-gen Tacoma reliability.
I had the truck out last week and went to the first "citywide garage sale" since the COVID shut-down started. This one was in Livermore, Ca. and it was in the mid-90s there.
It dawned on me that I'm still running on the original 20 year old AC charge and this thing still blows as cold as when new! Is this a rare thing in vehicles?
For that matter, still have yet to have one single light bulb burn out over the entire truck-both inside and out. I did put in Silverstars with the headlights, but still have the original bulbs and they still work.
Still running on all the original hoses too, both vacuum and water.
I have almost 150,000 miles on this truck and all this stuff still appears as-new visually and performance-wise.
Anyone else in here still running on original components that you know of?
I don't know-to me this is pretty impressive.
Oh and my frame looks like it's two years old LOL

I’m jealous of your A/C situation; My evaporator core blew sometime in 2016 or 2017 and it took over a year and two recharges before it was diagnosed…

Luckily, my A/C never totally stopped working; It was blew ice cold on the driver’s side but warm on the passenger side. I ended up bringing it to the stealership for an evaporator replacement when the dealer found it on the first try and our family mechanic spent over a year trying to find the damn leak!

Just because a mechanic has four or five decades of experience and is honest, doesn’t mean he’s Scotty Kilmer…

And on another note I’d to say that at nearly 12 years old (my truck is a 2010 on paper, but it was manufactured in August 2009 and purchased in September 2009), my truck that has spent its entire life in the Northeast has the following original components…

    • Frame
    • Suspension (not including the mild 2” lift)
    • Brake lines
    • Steering components

The only item underneath the truck that’s been replaced is the spare tire bracket thingy, which was rusted to the point of not being able to lower the spare tire by the fall of 2015.

The fact you only have 150,000 miles things are just breaking in

200,000 or 300,000 miles is not uncommon on original parts.

My 2000 has 250,000 on the original timing belt.

I have a 1999 and 320,000 miles and I'm very proud of my AC it's very cold and hasn't lost its charge since I've had it.

My thing is the age of this stuff not so much miles. I've owned 15 other vehicles in my life and none of them held with their original components like this truck has, regardless of mileage.
BTW you better get that belt changed like asap.

That's incredible if you're the original owner and you know for sure your AC still has its original gas in there:)

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Turned my a/c on in April 2010. I turn it off the odd time but basically it’s been on for 12 years

Why bother if it breaks it breaks then I can junk the truck since I really no longer have a need for it.

    OME and worth every penny.
Your location has some to do with it. My rubber parts rot in the heat and humidity. Windshield/back glass/ door rubbers are getting in pretty bad shape here.

Hahah I was literally telling my fiance the other day how good the AC is on this 18 year old truck. It blows colder than my 6 year old Chevrolet. However, I'm not as fortunate on the lighy bulb department. I had to replace every interior bulb...and I mean every bulb including the dash, center console, shifter, etc.

And here I had to get my AC compressor replaced last month for a pretty penny because it stopped working at 95k miles

To be fair though this truck had really low mileage when I got it 5 years ago, and I think the AC system needs to be used regularly to keep working. Mine definitely went unused for years before I got it.

No doubt in my mind. Heat kills.
