....Anyone else hooked on this series by Angery American?

At this point, it's an entire series of(I think)10 books; all of them are pretty awesome and thought provoking.

For those interested, the books follow a guy named Morgan Carter who ultimately ends up stranded like 200 miles from his home in Florida after something causes his vehicle to shut off unexpectedly. He's the type of person to store a bugout bag in his truck; after not being able to immediately diagnose what's wrong with it, he sets off on foot - and quickly realizes some crazy shit has gone down. The nation is essentially hit with a suspected EMP, and the resulting books are about his struggle to get home to his family, and eventually, with a group of fellow survivors, rebuild their world.

Honestly, this series has proven to keep me riveted throughout, and although the editing was lacking in the first couple of books, it really didn't detract enough from the story for me to take notice. At this point, I've been waiting on book 11 for what feels like forever now, but rumor has it someone bought the rights to make a movie with this story, so I imagine that's been his primary focus at the given moment.

    Regardless, anyone else read 'em?

    From Amazon:

Book 1 of The Survivalist Series

If society collapsed, could you survive?

When Morgan Carter’s car breaks down 250 miles from his home, he figures his weekend plans are ruined. But things are about to get much, much worse: the country’s power grid has collapsed. There is no electricity, no running water, no Internet, and no way to know when normalcy will be restored—if it ever will be. An avid survivalist, Morgan takes to the road with his prepper pack on his back.

During the grueling trek from Tallahassee to his home in Lake County, chaos threatens his every step but Morgan is hell-bent on getting home to his wife and daughters—and he’ll do whatever it takes to make that happen.

Fans of James Wesley Rawles, William R. Forstchen's One Second After, and The End by G. Michael Hopf will revel in A. American's apocalyptic tale.

You should check out the "Holding Their Own" series by Joe Nobody. In my opinion, a little better written.

I absolutely will. Not gonna lie; I've been a little bummed since I finished the Going Home series, and needed some new material. Thank you!

Sounds very similar to Lights Out. Not sure who wrote that one, but I remember reading a free PDF version of it years and years ago. I think he published the PDF looking for people to provide him with feedback / editing.

Nice! Yeah, I'll have to look around for that one, too. For some reason I really enjoy the whole survivalist/apocalyptic/end-of-society trope. I follow the author of the Going Home series on social media, and awhile ago he did a couple videos talking about how he was in negotiations to turn his series into a film/tv movie; I haven't been following closely enough though as of recent to see if it actually came to fruition, or not.

Here's another one for you. "299 Days", it's a 10 book series by Glen Tate. In my opinion this is the most realistic dystopian/end of society series I have read. Like, in today's political climate this series is not far from becoming non-fiction. Also the 3 book series by William Forstchen is awesome.

No problem. I don't know if you're buying the physical books or getting e-books, but there was a volume or 2 that weren't available in the google store. I did however find them on Amazon.

"Lights Out" by David Crawford is the one @SR-71A was talking about . Here's the .pdf: https://www.giltweasel.com/stuff/LightsOut-Current.pdf

One of my favs that is an older one is "Lucifer's Hammer" by Niven and Pournelle, though the first hundred pages or so is mostly setting the stage. It was written in the late 70's but I think it holds up surprisingly well. I'm not sure that the tech advance since its writing would change the story all that much once things go pear shaped.

The "Wool" books by Hugh Howey weren't too bad either, though I felt there were some pretty glaring plot holes that didn't get better as the series went along.

Yeah, call me old school, but....I still prefer my books in printed format. I have no hatred for the kindle and e-books, I just prefer being able to read without having to worry about charging. haha

Lucifer's Hammer, while it didn't invent the genre, is the epitome of it IMHO. Absolutely fantastic, especially with the detail of the comet. And since it was written in the 70s, most of that depiction has proved to be correct with the way Shoemaker-Levy 9 gave Jupiter multiple impacts.

Lights Out isn't bad, and I do like it since it's set in Central Texas, so I can relate. He doesn't go into much how hot it actually is here, lol

Since it’s all fiction, read Lucifer’s Hammer
