And check your relays after next winter. Unsealed relays can develop corrosion around the springs and contacts even when not directly exposed to moisture. I had one rust up just sitting in the clam shell door pocket.

Will be coating everything with crc marine corrosion inhibitor. This has to be done once complete because it is none conductive wax like coating. Meaning if I had to rewire anything would be a bitch to clean all the contact surfaces. Several other product lines out there that will do the same thing. Used in industry alot. Hoping that will be enough.

Panel is future add-on proof. I'm only using 2 circuits for lights of the start. The main bus bar is good for 400amps, so some strait hot lines to a stereo amplifier maybe. Second circuit breaker could be used for a winch etc.

You know what I love most about this mod? It's done, and I don't ever really have to think about it. Plug something new in, connect a switch. Job done.

You spend money and time up front, but it pays off is spades down the road.

Sounds messy. What about the terminals that aren’t yet in use?

It's not so bad. Tape off what you don't want coated, comes in a spray can. The marine one is a little more forgiving for cleanup later, mild solvent. Theres also more industrial stuff you can find at an electrical supply store that will be a dry wax. I'd throw the $6 relay away before trying to scrape it clean of that stuff lol.

Any terminal not used i won't coat. They'll rust eventually but no bid deal. Should see my tinner boat panel, rusted to shit but conducts electricity just fine lol.

One extra precaution I plan to switch between my relays at some point. I'm only using two for light bars so they won't rust open/closed because they'll be used alot. Way the panel is done in seconds I can bounce over to a different relay and give that one a little workout.

Gonna be installing an aux fuse block soon. Just a quick question. One of my accessories has an inline fuse already in the wire harness. Is it okay to leave that and also attach it to the aux fuse block, or should I cut and resolder that section to delete it. Thanks!

It would be redundant but not an issue otherwise. I personally would eliminate it since often only the aux panel fuses are readily accessible with the wires getting buried.

Super clean! Very new to wiring and this thread. Is it necessary to have a relay for all your inputs? Or does it for high wattage accessories? Is it better to just wire relays for all inputs?

Relays protect your switches so you probably ought to use them in all but the lowest wattage applications. I use them on all of mine

Understood. What could be considered lowest wattage applications? I have some ditch lights I was going to wire.

That will depend on the lights themselves and the switch controlling them. Think of it this way: without a relay all the power going to those lights will have to flow through the switch.

Really depends on the amp rating of the switch you are using and the combined amp draw of the accessories you are switching. For example if you have a switch rated to 15A and you are switching (4) rock lights that draw 1A each (total of 4A) then you would be fine just using the switch.

Two more advantages of using relays is sometimes it can reduce the length of expensive large gauged wire and they keep high amp circuits in the engine bay, behind the fire wall.

yep as others have said, for my truck i use relays for all things so i can run thin gauge wire into the cab. on the race car no relays, only high amp switches. less things to go wrong.
