No, still using the 1.5" on top. Even with a 3" mattress, I'll have 1.5" of space for the tent canvas and bedding (likely just have a fitted sheet on, and then keep the blanket folded up in the truck). I'm using the same hinges that are used on the outside, and attaching to the inside of the extrusion.

I went with the PVC-backed Ottertex and love it. Hard to sew cause it's thick, but it's completely blackout (I hate moonlight or an early sunrise disturbing sleep) and a thicker material should in theory be quieter in the wind. Zero issues with folding or packing.

    Regarding the canvas:
For the windows or opening, has anyone done a zipper for the canvas material blocking light out, a mesh for bugs, and also a clear vinyl window with a zipper? I can imagine the clear vinyl window being nice in the rain/snow when you still want to be able to see out, but retain some heat inside the camper.

I'm sewing mine right now using the Otterex PU, in charcoal grey. I sampled a bunch of different fabrics. The PVC coated stuff seemed WAY too thick.

At first it does seem like the PVC Ottertex Waterproof Canvas like it would be too thick for a tent, but once you see an even thicker material used on a commercial tent you'll realize that it's nothing. Bush Co, CVT, Quick Pitch, etc. use a LOT thicker fabric on their wedge tents and they close way easy.

Vagabond uses some really thick stuff too. Dunno how thick, but it's an insulted tent material and looks beefy

Im curious about the tent fabric since I still need to order mine. I was going to go with what Ripcord used but if theres better stuff out there.

Im also in the south so I need something somewhat waterproof and breathable

The Canvas Ottertex with the PVC coating looks super water proof. It's thick but seems to be workable and I'm sure it'll last a long time and be good in windy conditions. If you order some samples from this website you'll get a $10 coupon which makes it worth it in my opinion. It's also cheaper than what ripcord used. You can see in this link a video that shows the fabric pretty well. I'm going to make a call about fabric this week.

Anybody can chime in with their experience with the 6mm panels vs 3mm? I was thinking of doing just the floor in 6mm. Not sure if it's worth it to do the roof too...

Agree, is there any water proof coating that is breathable?

yeah im not sure what im looking at. I might just stick with the ripcord stuff since it seems to work for him in the winters.

If I use a PVC backed fabric then I will for sure need a roof vent

That's what windows are for :D

Just FYI, the stuff from rocky woods is discontinued and they were down to their last 20ish yards in red.

PU materials should be breathable, Ottertex has a PU version. But like @nanserb said, thats what windows/fan is for lol.

Is it correct to use the 3/8" keder rail with 1/4" cord? I assume that accounts for the fabric thickness?
