Thanks for the shout-out @beorn the fat ...it's been weeks since I've been in here! Good seein ya, buddy!

BTW, ran out to Peters Mill (VA) with a few Toyotas on Saturday to finally get a little mud on my 2021 TRD OR manual. It's a tame trail, so no probs, but reminded me how sucky the stock gearing is on these 3rd gens :boom::rofl:

Projects: Got my RCI sliders and engine skid on before that trip; put a SaBellCo tailgate lock on after that trip.

Good afternoon fellas, would anyone want to help me patch a hole in my frame? Got a safe-t-cap to weld on at the front of the leaf spring, but I've got no welder or experience welding. Located in Annapolis. Beer, food, coffee, and jokes will be provided along with any other reasonable request

    Thanks!

I've got a flux core welder I could bring over since its pretty portable without needing gas, but it might be a 2-3 weeks before I have some weekend time. Not the fanciest thing, but it does alright up. Unfortunately I don't have a place to work on trucks up here in Annapolis, but happy to schlep stuff over to wherever you are

If you're able to come to Mechanicsville VA some time (about 2hrs from Annapolis), I've got a plasma cutter and a driveway if you need to cut out any larger rust areas. No worries if you can't or don't want too, I've got grinders and such I could bring.

not as minty as some can do, but what this machine is capable of on 3/16"

How do you locate that new spring hanger bracket? I would hate to accidentally weld it in the wrong spot lol

That is the main thing I'm worried about. I figured I could measure where the stock is now and draw an outline. It would be tough no matter how we do it. The center of the leaf bolt is like 99% directly below the cab mount bracket, and the hanger would need to be lined up left to right as well. Not rocket science, just unsettling lol

Yeah that part scares me lol. Wonder if can attach the new bracket to the leaf and set it back down, then try and square it up and leaf will help with at least front to back maybe? Could half weld it then run it to firestone for an alignment to check lol

I also think maybe a more powerful welder than what I have would be better suited for the actual suspension bracket. I've got no problem with a 110v welder on the actual frame plate, but the leaf bracket may want more sauce I dunno

edit: A laser level/crosshair might be helpful to get it really close back to position

You might be right about the juice. My friend came over with his 90V welder and we decided it wasn't powerful enough. Will see what I can find out about this project before I cut anything out

yeah for just frame plating I don't see a problem with it, but the actual leaf hanger bracket I think I'd want something more powerful to ensure it was really never coming off.
