Ive done that trail, and yea, no picture actually prepared me for how steep and rocky/techy it is. Couldn't make it down in one go the first time. Had to stop about 3/4 of the way, and then reset...

Man I miss the 'Bird. Beautiful riding for sure, but the no bikes on the tram is bullshit. I feel like several companies are just using covid as an excuse to limit things without actually having any basis to support it.

they just put like a million dollars redoing the train/tram that goes up pikes peak, and they still dont allow bikes. idk why. they could be on the outside of a car or something. but a single ticket is around $50, which i would totally pay for a lift up the mountain. the train also takes a few hours.

the other option is a new company in town that offers shuttles to the start of the bike trail, not even at the summit of the mountain. these are like $50 a person, and probably only takes around an hour to get from their shop to the trailhead.

an annual pass for a specific vehicle is around $120, with as many passengers as there are seat belts.

so idk. im just kinda venting with this post. it would be nice to be able to solo it, without a driver. if youre local and ride it enough the annual pass would work if you can get a driver every now and then.

its a pretty killer trail id recommend people that like dh trails to try. multiple ways down once you hit the halfway mark.

I had no idea either. The guy I’m with is new, I’ve been teaching him to ride and showing him trails for the past month or so and he was already ready to try Car Wreck. I made it to the last Boulder on the first go but my front wheel hung up and I had to bail and run out my speed. Luckily it was smooth after that Boulder. Are you local to SoCal?

When you go on vacation and end up finding the bike you’re looking for on PB, local to the vacation.

Chameleons are fun. If it’s a first model year inspect the drop outs and then make sure they are adjusted properly. They did a revision on them and beefed up a section of frame a year later.

Had no idea. It’s the green one, 2018 I think. I already bought it so hopefully no issue.

I’ll have to look closely at what you’re describing later.

I think it’s somewhat rare, but I didn’t want to worry about it. When I had mine I made sure to adjust them properly and then blue loctite the bolts.

The thin part of the frame was revised in the next model years.

Snag a somewhat decent (read: secure) bike rack on vacation! Return the rack or sell it when home

    congrats on the new wheels!

If I can find one I’ll do just that. Not a ton of options in beach country.

I would assume this visible crack is the area you are referring to that should be inspected?

As far as properly adjusted, do you mean just centered? So if that’s a dumb question.

Yeah I would take a look at that area for peace of mind.

I slammed my adjusters so I had the shortest possible chainstay. Once the wheel was where I wanted it I would torque the bolts to the correct spec (and blue Loctite) and then back off the tensioners so they aren't putting any pressure on the frame.

4 hours riding Pocahontas state park this past Sunday with my buddy, back home, visiting from Japan. We haven’t been able to ride or catch up in person for two years so it felt great to just cut loose and play in the woods.

The rock descent in my photos above; you'll see it around 2:20 in this video

    MillStone

    Then there's Corkscrew

    and Bell Lap

And many, many, many more... such a fun mix of XC with flow/jump alternate lines.

I spent a good 15 minutes chatting with the trail project coordinator out there about how he has all the equipment, money, and freedom to put in alternate lines in many of the existing trails. I've been riding in Pocahontas S.P. for years and it's been super fun watching the trail system get so extensive, fun, and challenging.

I mean... when you have an on-site excavator, full trailer of trail building tools, complete with motorized dump carts... wouldn't you build some badass jumps and whoops?

It really is worth a day drive or even weekend camp-n-ride. They have an extensive camping section with direct trail connection, and lots of options from pure technical, old-school, stuff to flow and a short DJ line. I plan to get up there more often, as it's only 2-1/2 hours away and more fun/exploration than what I can find in a 2-1/2 hour drive of home.

yea I picked the left line, since it was a bit smoother to start, but I got a little off balance, and had to put my foot down. it was tough to get going again lol...

yea I live in pasadena. ride mostly at Marshall Canyon in La Verne/Claremont Hills, and also Brown Mountain/El Prieto. But I do like to drive and check out new trails whenever I can, especially if I have someone to go explore with, or someone who is willing to show me around.

    Where are you located?
