we live off 49 about 2 miles south of the "town" of El Dorado. Not quite to the point where the canyon starts dropping off. We get several fires every year in our county, but they usually get taken care of before they get very large, thankfully.

I love short visits to the Shadow realm!

Few years back I was a groomsman at my friends wedding. The night before the wedding the Brides father took the whole group out on a booze cruise following the rehearsal. Boat took off from the dock next to the hotel, went down the river and into the bay for a bit then circled back.

While on the cruise, due to not knowing anyone other than a couple of the groomsman, I was imbibing quite heavily to get more relaxed and chat people up. I started buying shots for everyone as well as myself(Jager Bombs). This is where the night started getting interesting. One of the Groomsman was my roommate from university and knew me way to well (Once I have some drinks I only need very small suggestions to do stupid stuff) and of course took advantage of this by planting a seed in my mind.

On the trip back from the bay to the river on suggestion from my buddy and due to copious amounts of Jager. I decided it was a great idea to cool down by stripping down completely nude and diving of the top of the boat and swimming to shore. Once I made it to shore I know realized the stupidity of the situation but did really care. I strolled up the river bank all the way back to the hotel and then had to stand behind some trees next to the hotel until the boat returned and my old roommate brought me clothes.

For some reason I was everyone's best friend the rest of the weekend. Random people I didn't kept coming and chatting me up and buying me drinks. I think they may have been looking for some sort of repeat.

 

On the bright side...

 

We were on the 80 side above Auburn, maybe 5 miles north of 49. I tried going back through my Facebook to see if I had mentioned the name of that fire but no luck. Apparently it was at least 350 acres though and from the direction, it was likely near Foresthill.

Had quite the view every fire season.

I don't miss it.

 

30 years for me; after awhile it all starts to taste like piss you got that to look forward to.
