Screw Microsoft and Xbox!! (RANT)

Sorry this is so long. The last paragraph is the cliffnotes. Everything in between is more detailed.

My Xbox broke a couple months ago so I called MS up and started the replacement process since it was still under warranty. This was maybe the fourth time that my console was replaced by MS due to their defective consoles. I qualified for the "Advanced Exchange Program" (this is where they send you the replacement console first, then you send your broken console back to them in the same package) since I had so many issues with them within a certain amount of time. So they sent me out a refurbed console.

About five days later UPS dropped off the replacement console. I opened it up and took the console out and noticed that it was making a weird rattling noise inside. I hooked all the cables back up and turned it on. I downloaded all the required software updates onto it like you're supposed to when getting a replacement console. I then hooked up my Kinect to it and download the required software updates for it. Right after the software updates downloaded the screen went white, then back, then the E74 error message popped up and the RROD started flashing. I called MS up right away and explained to them what happened and that this was the first day I had the replacement console. At this point I had TWO broken consoles in my living room. So they apologize and say that I qualified for another Advance Exchange. They ship me out another Xbox.

In the meantime I shipped out the first console that I originally had a problem with.

About four days later I got the replacement console from UPS. Hooked it up and everything worked great. So I packed up the replacement console that took a shit on me the day I got it and shipped it out.

About a week and a half later I got an email from MS saying that they discovered that I tampered with the console and that they charged my account $250 for the working console that I currently had and voided my warranty. I called them up right away and started disputing it. Everything was on record about me calling them the same day I received that console saying that it stopped working after the Kinect was being set up. After numerous phone calls throughout two weeks and escalations they finally said they weren't going to credit me the money back and that I had tampered with it.

To sum it up, they sent me a defective console to replace my original console that was covered under warranty, then charged me $250 when they received the defective console and said that I tampered with it the ten minutes I had it out of the box. Since they refused to credit me the money they said I could return my working Xbox and get a refund. So, I'm going to send them back the working console to get my money back, trade all my Xbox shit in, and get a PS3. Its business practices like this that make people hate Microsoft.

Microsoft. Made in China. Outsourced to India.

 

After I round house kicked my third one I said fuck it and haven't bought another console since. About to sell all my xbox stuff and games.

Anyone what the microsoft racing wheel? Haha.

And then I hated, absolutely fucking hated, having to call customer service and speak to an out source named bob and they couldn't get what I was saying.

 

Im on my 5th Xbox, i got the elite and have no problems since Knock on wood.

I wouldn't buy an xbox for that reason...something that fails that often...no thanks.

 

I have the slim PS3 and not a problem since day one. *knocks on wood also*

 

PS3 rules.

 

I've had 1 PS3... and it sits and sits and sits and then I finally I watch a Blu-ray and then it sits until sony puts out a descent exclusive and then it sits more. I've had 3 xboxs, but they have ran many hours, if I ran my PS3 half as often as my 360 it would be broke too! Just FYI, Fuck both Sony & Micosoft!

 

Exactly. Just tired of their shit. Having to buy new map packs if you want to still play online, $60 a year for Xbox Live now, terrible customer service. Just isn't worth it.

I like that the PS3s online network is free.

 

Its true that the 360 Slims don't get the RRODs because MS didn't put the red LEDs into them.

This was my sixth console. The last three have all been the Elites.

 

I would never get an XBox for the sole reason that they charge for the online gaming.

Yeah it used to be $50 a year. Then they jumped it up to $60. Even said in the email they sent to everyone that $5 a month for the online experience in nothing.

Even though they will be making billions just off that $10 jump on everyone that plays online.

 

$60 isn't that bad for a year. I got a PS3 and it just sits there till i play a Blu-ray through it.

 

Yeah but $50 a year is better. And considering MS squeezes money out of you whenever/however they can it just felt a bit excessive.

Oh well though. I've researched the PS3s quite a bit. Think I'm going to get the 320GB console with the Move bundle for $399. Returning my Kinect and Console will cover that easily. Then trading in my controllers and other shit should be another hundred off. I'll be making/saving money by switching to PS3.

 

That sucks man! I've had the same PS3 for atleast 4-5 years now with no problems (knock on wood). Good luck with the PS3 (btw the PS Move is pretty cool to replace your Kinect).

 

Just wait until you have to do downloads via PSN... haha! PSN is as slow as a Prius, but hey its free! If I could only afford one console I would go with the PS3 as well, I guess because its cheap and dependable-ish... so good luck with the sony!

 

I just bought a Xbox 360 slim last night Love it!

$60 isn't bad for 13 months of online gaming ( i think you get one month free?? ) If you think about it, Microsoft has that revenue to make the online experience better. They can re-invest in their online schemes making the whole experience of gaming better.

As for PS3, and their free online gaming, they have no revenue to put into it, so it what it is. And it probably won't be upgraded significantly for awhile.

 

That sucks man, I have never had a problem with my 360 and I play it almost every night before I go to bed, and the other nights that I dont play the 360 I am on my PS3. I have had my 360 for about 3 years now and never had one problem with it, and I have had my PS3 for a little over a year now and no problem with it.

Now I know that free always sounds good but I own both consoles and let me tell you that it is worth paying for online on the 360, I am not saying the PSN is bad but you can tell a difference, as I like to cross game chat on the 360 where the PS3 does not do that, have fun with the PS3 when you get it and I highly recommend you trying Uncharted as that series is simply amazing.

I baught the xbox 360 elite a little over 3 years ago. I baught that intercooler but I was only a casual gamer. I would go weeks with out playing. When my dvd player quit working we started using the xbox as our dvd player. well then my roomates wold never turn off the xbox i would wake up in the mornign and it would have been lft running all night long. 2 weeks ago I finally got the red ring of death. I started doing some research and i found out that that intercooler voids the waranty!!! I had just recently renewed my subscription to xbox live and had also gotten a lot of new games that i had enjoyed playing quite a bit. those reasons kept me from going with the PS3. I did my research on the new xbox 360S and feel confident that it is a better built system so I went out and got the new slim with the 250 gig hard drive. I'm also burning a lard portion of my games to the hard drive to avoid wear and tear on the disc drive and I'm also on the prawl for an externally powered devise that will aid in the cooling process. I may build somethign of my own with additional cooling fans or something.

 

I also got an email the other day that said they were going to let you start purchasing stuff from the market place with your acheivment points. including your Xbox gold subscriptions. I'm trying to look into this further to confirm.
