Hi folks, I am back into a tacoma after a 2 yr hiatus driving a GMC Elevation. I normally run winter tires on steel rims with no TPMS. Just wondering for those who do, do you have to get your sensors programmed every time you change tires or do you program once and are able to swap them on and off without doing anything, and have the winter sensors read ok?

As a side note I am planning to use replika 213 wheels that look like the TRD wheels for my winters. Anyone have any experience with these?

I do the same and never have had to reprogram them, funny side note. My storage is less than 3ft away and if the tpms warning system comes on it resets it self over night. I can usually take my 21mile commute round trip without tripping it. Takes about 30 continuous miles to trip, on my truck, if it does it resets. Welcome back.

Same here. Put the summers back on and everything works just fine.

I run two different wheel sets, dedicated winters and all terrains. The winter set has 4 Autel TPMS that have been cloned to the OEM TPMS ID#s. So I can swap them over whenever I want to and no ECU programming stuff.

IIRC, in the 2nd set of tires you can install the TPMS sensors that can be cloned to match your truck.

Seasonal tire changes can be done without monkeying about with the TPMS.

This is confusing. Some have to clone the sensors on the winter set to match the sensors on the summer set and others don't have to do this and get no warning light? Does the Tacoma just read the new sensors automatically?

The truck only knows about the 4 sensor ID's that have been programmed into it's ECU. If your winter tires have sensors with different ID numbers (i.e. not clones) then those ID numbers need to be programmed into the ECU for the system to work properly.

    They get warning lights.

Or....like me, they park close to the wheels with the TPMS in them and it resets every time. This can give you the impression that the system is working if your trips are short

Yes...as long as your OE sensors are good, a tire shop can use programmable sensors and clone the signals from the OE sensors.

Swap wheels whenever you want with no TPMS warnings

Why not just keep your second set in the back of the truck, then?

You can buy cloneable sensors that will not require programming.

I never bother with winter TPMS, the light on Canadian models only illuminates after 40 mins of driving.

That seems like pain in the ass to carry them around. Besides, I typically run my snow tires only when needed. They would just be covered in snow or someone might steal them

Can anyone comment specifically on the Replika 213 wheels please?
