I was putting my whole body into the torque wrench and I was like “WHY ARENT YOU CLICKING?!”

I knew people had an issue bending them but I was like “no way I will, these are too thick”. I was wrong.

I'm already working on my rhetoric of the importance of cleanliness and evils of dirt.

Better be careful, you're almost at that age when the blood vessels in your head start to thin out. Just sayin'

If it wasn't so dang hot out then I might've rolled the truck into the driveway and cleaned it up and then finished assembly out there. At least now I know how easy it is to remove the fan and shroud so I can do it in the future when it's cooler.

I only bent mine a tiny bit, but I threaded grade 10 bolts into the harmonic balancer and tightened a bolt into it to keep it stable.

184 (or whatever it is) ft/lbs is a lot.

I did a visual inspection and it wasn't too bad, at least on the back of it. I'll still probably give it a good cleaning at some point as well as the front of the engine. The layer of dirt and oil caked on there is incredible.

Yea, we watch it over and over too Dr. Funker. Especially if it's a weekend night and we've both had a few too many. :drunk:

184 ft/lbs is nothing to #RandyFab. I once saw him do 150 ft/lbs bare handed, and I think he was sitting down. He's a beast. Have you seen his hairy legs?

Question for the lair; Thoughts on going from weld on sliders to bolt on sliders?

    TIA.

I say if you can weld like Randall then you don't need bolt on. However, if you weld like @FadedComa and don't want to add an additional 300lbs installing them, bolt on is the way to go.

But seriously, I have bolted them onto both of my Tacoma's and jacked up the entire side of the truck with them so.......

For me, bolt on is the only option. I don't weld.

One or two things modded... Check out the build thread
You live in the rust belt, correct... bolting on leaves a tiny gap with high frequency vibrations happening at all time while driving... so consider that and you won't switch to bolt on with these frames.

As Justin said, it's corrosion city with bolt-ons. You'll want to remove the sliders and keep rust in check every 1-2 years.

Right. Someone in the Northeast has bolt-ons and removed them to address the frame and sliders. I just can't get to all the spaces for the weld ons to address the rust on the sliders.

Can't cut them off and reweld them either without a local welder.

I guess that begs the question; should I hold off on the bolt ons and use that money to invest in a mid-range welder setup?...

Which areas? I can’t think of any spot on my sliders I wouldn’t be able to get to with paint if needed.
