I swapped my front main seal today and it was easier than I expected. The only difficult part was keeping it from spinning while I torqued it down. If I were to redo it, I would loctite and ugga dugga it on.

I removed the fan and shroud and it gave me so much room to work. It was easy too. Two bolts for the shroud and 4 for the fan and I lifted them out together.

That gave me enough room to get an impact on the bolt and it backed it right out. The pulley came right off too, I didn’t need a puller.

Getting the seal out took a little finesse but it came out and to put the new one in I pushed it in my hand as much as I could and then tapped it in with a 35mm socket and a hammer.

Used my homemade tool to torque the pulley to 180 ft lbs and man, that was difficult. You can see why the tool bent. Back together and runs fine. Time will tell if the leak starts again.

 

Headlights sanded and clearcoated by a friend of mine. Used car clear so it should hold up real well.

Yup the axle is built to be moveable, thats the point of using them on a front end. as long as you werent over extending it in any direction you are good.

 

what grit sand paper did you use?

 

Started with 320 then finished with 600

 

A strip of flat-black vinyl at the worst of the glare producing part of the hood.

 

I just got my roll of matte black to do the hood for the same reason

The real question is how is it floating like that. Doesn't look like there is anything there to be holding it up.

Anyone know if a shift knob from a 4runner or tundra will fit a taco? I don't see why they would be any different but websites are telling me it wouldn't fit. I want to buy this but want to make sure before I do.

Got the truck at the end of March and just getting started on doing some work to make it my own.
